So, on the heels of Fox's disastrous financial loss to Dominion, their starring bigot and most egregious con artist, Tucker Carlson has left the channel. At first glance, it might seem that Carlson quit out of humiliation at being revealed for the liar and hypocrite that he is. But, typically, sleaze like that knows no shame. It would be surprising if a lowlife like Carlson is any exception.
I suspect it was Fox which let Carlson go and not the other way around. While Rupert Murdoch may be a white supremacist and a Fascist, he is also a billionaire and didn't attain his present financial position by being cavalier with the bottom line. Even after tax write offs, Fox will stil have lost five hundred million dollars from this case alone. And the Smartmatic lawsuit is fast approaching.
Once a pattern of lies has been established, Fox should become increasingly susceptible to lawsuits from other parties, damaged by Fox lies, of which there is no dearth. The bottom line is that Fox cannot afford to maintain its present business model. To continue profitably, Fox must present its propaganda more in line with the facts. Getting rid of Carlson is a first step. Fox can always fish around for another star, just as nasty and repugnant and therefore just as attractive to Fox's audience, but less overtly deceitful.
For Carlson's part, the Far Right orbit of hate, is still his oyster. He can probably get a lucrative contract with Newsmax or one of the other Fascist propaganda outlets. Or worse yet, be hired by an outlet that looks more like legitimate news but wishes to present a seemingly "balanced" appearance.
I would guess the Fox/Dominion lawsuit puts the entire Anti-Democratic Political Deception Industry on notice that, for the first time, it is in danger of actually paying a price for blatantly lying. If so, it represents a reprieve for a nation ravaged by insensate hate.
