When unemployment is low, then the Air Force has to lower its standards to keep all the positions properly staffed. The military has always been the employer of last resort for many years. This is not only the pilots, but also the mechanics and maintenance people.

The main reason Nixon was forced to put an end to the Vietnam War was that the smarter people of military age were refusing to report for the draft. Some went to Sweden, others went to Canada and there were many other ways to beat the draft. What was left were semi lierate and illiterate country boys known as "MacNamara's Morons"

why was the lottery cutoff about 125 then?
they could've upped the lottery numbers to get all the warm bodies they needed.

When they called 125 men and 14 actually showed up, then they knew that they were not going to hit their quota. The draft "lottery" was televised, and the number needed were announced prior to that. If they had tried a rerun, it would have been bloody obvious that their method was not working and could not be made to work.  So they went with "Vietnamization".

The military claimed that it was winning. if they had increased the number drafted, they would have left the cat out of the bag. They sent me a letter to report and I didn't. I had failed an Army physical in 1960 and the Army could not admit that they had thrown away the results.

The military has continually reported the crisis that 80% of men between 18-30 are:
--fat
--druggies
--criminals

are you completely stupid? They drafted 49k  in 1972. 125 was a number assigned to a birthdate! Mine was 308.
you're making **** up that you don't even know a thing about.

the draft ended in 1973 and they went to volunteer army.  they still had standby lottery subjects at their call if the needed them
