Barrett 82A1 50 BMG 10-round Semi-Auto. What would a sportsman hunt with a 50 caliber $8799 gun?Squatchman » 02 May 2023, 8:12 am » wrote: ↑ I priced them.
Because well,you know.
They're $8,799.00 new at Sportsamans Warehouse.
I'd still love to have one though.
I forget what one of those single shot Sebula things go for but I don't trust them after watching Scott on YouTube at Kentucky Ballistics almost get killed when his blew up.
The only 50 caliber I'd buy would be the Barrett 82A1, and actually $8,800 is a really good price for a new one. I recall seeing people 10 years ago trying to sell their used 82A1's for close to $10KSquatchman » 02 May 2023, 8:12 am » wrote: ↑ I priced them.

Vehicles. Or, Somali pirates through vehicles at long distances. There are better rounds than 50BMG for hunting big game.Xavier_Onassis » 02 May 2023, 8:18 am » wrote: ↑ What would a sportsman hunt with a 50 caliber $8799 gun?

As long as you get them to shoot as vertically as possible.Skans » 02 May 2023, 7:23 am » wrote: ↑ Theoretically, any civilian with a .50 BMG rifle can shoot down the China Balloons. A 50 caliber rifle has a vertical range of approximately 122,000 feet in optimal conditions. The China balloons travel in a narrow range of 52,000 feet to 64,000 feet. This is about half the distance of what a projectile from a 50 BMG rifle can attain.
I propose that a group of civilians with Barrett 50 caliber rifles (or others) gather together in one location where the balloon is projected to travel over. If enough 50 caliber rifles were fired in a tight grid pattern, ahead of the forward vector of the balloon (would need to be calculated), there is a decent chance that at least one projectiles would strike and damage it.
A typical Barrett 82A1 has a magazine capacity of 10 rounds. If you gathered 25 shooters, that would be a grid of 5x5 for 10 successive shots. And, you can have an unlimited number of magazines. So, the shots would be fired perhaps a rate of 1 round per 8 seconds. After one magazine, the balloon may move out of range. You would want to time this so that everyone on a coordinated basis goes through at least one magazine.
What would this accomplish?
- It would show China that WE, THE PEOPLE will go to war with the Chinks, regardless of what our sopping-wet ******-President does.
- It would show China how much WE, THE PEOPLE care about them.
- It would signal our own Government that if they can't take care of business, WE, THE PEOPLE can and will.
- And, it would be a crap-ton of fun.
Well, there are a lot of things to consider - wind, distance, trajectory of the moving target. That's why I think a grid pattern would be better than a one-off rifle firing at the target. Tracers might be a good idea too.DeezerShoove » 02 May 2023, 9:10 am » wrote: ↑ As long as you get them to shoot as vertically as possible.
Two reasons: Straighter line of flight for the bullet (plus target is as close as possible).
Also, the bullet loses its ballistic characteristics and becomes an object falling at terminal velocity.
Lessens the chances of being deadly upon impact when it comes back down.
All I know is New Years Eve there's a lot of guns fired into the air in Detroit.Skans » 02 May 2023, 10:17 am » wrote: ↑ Well, there are a lot of things to consider - wind, distance, trajectory of the moving target. I agree.
I don't think your facts are correct, I don't think a 50 BMG will travel 23 miles.Skans » 02 May 2023, 7:23 am » wrote: ↑ Theoretically, any civilian with a .50 BMG rifle can shoot down the China Balloons.
