The rules set by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will take effect in 2024. “Starting in 2024, films will be required to meet new inclusion standards to be eligible for the Academy Awards for Best Picture. Are the BET awards going to adopt these equity requirements?

Should men be included in the Miss America Pageant? BET is designed to be exclusionary. Like the American Kennel Club.
The Academy  has decided that its awards will no longer be exclusionary. The Academy does not work for you or me, it represents all the people who make movies.

The Oscars are awards presented by the Academy for what the academy considers the best in a a wide variety of categories.
For many years, Black people, Asians, and Latinos were basically excluded, except for a few Latinos that changes their names like Rita Hayworth (Margarita Carmen Cansino), whose father was Spanish Romani.
Westerns almost never got an Oscar. Science fiction and cartoons were never considered at all.
Of course, acting in most Westerns and Sci Fi films was pretty awful.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is composed of a huge range of actors, camera jockeys, set designers, musicians, Foley artists, best boys and other technicians. The goal is to recognize talent in as many aspects of the creative skills as the members of the Academy possess.

The goal is NOT to please narrow-minded bigoted twits that refuse to recognize what people that know nothing about making films might like.

There is no obligation on your part to watch the Academy Awards shows or to watch any film, for that matter.

The movie industry will be forced to make movies that the largest part of the market just doesn't want to watch. They could always get a real job.
