The feeling is mutual.  I've made several attempts to civillly discuss gun violence and school shootings on more than one forum.  I've gotten excuses, racism, death threats and all sorts of ****.  

I figured out that the children's lives don't matter as much as the feeling that is unholy to discuss guns in any way but sacred.

The mentally ill should be getting treatment... not reading books about their affliction to 3rd graders.

Mental illness isn't like getting your tires changed.  It is a community effort.  And its being used to teach that very compassion we were talking about earlier.

You seem to be talking from experience.

I fail to see how teaching kids that "accepting" a mental condition of a sexual nature as being normal is compassionate.

I see it as confusing as hell to the kids, not to mention very detrimental to their own mental health. Children are very malleable and easily traumatized. Impressions formed at early age tend to stick for life... and by introducing something like drag queens into a classroom setting at an early age leads me to believe that the end game for the perpetrators is to create more drag queens in the generation.

In short, it's promoting mental illness... and mentally ill people tend to not mesh well with society as a whole. Mentally ill people shoot up shopping malls and schools (among other things) because, well, they are mentally ill.

They need help... not to be idolized and promoted as "normal", because their not.

To always lower the bar of morality and cultural standards.

Speaking as an old guy, What todays kids are growing up with is very different from what we grew up with.  Their normal is going be very different from our normal and that is a fact.  Drag time reading is about acceptance of others.  You know, Morality.  They sure aren't teaching that in the Church.

Mass shootings are part of the "new normal" too ya know.

You should just "accept" that. It's just mental illness after all.
 
 

I do enjoy being alive. I enjoy being dad, living in a place that offers outdoor recreation and minimal politics. As for humans and their love of bitching, complaining, and whining.. this forum and every other one like it are proof of that. In the next year, will be traveling to San Jose, Seattle, and Edmonton to see rock concerts. Going to be fun times.

As for work, I continue to do it because i am quite talented at it and it provides predictability and a sufficient income. The job has changed. It was a strictly numbers and code but now has changed to being more accounting/legal research. Not quite the puzzle that I was used to solving.

This is a 99 years old woman who lived with the memory of having accidentally killed her only child.

She was a very nice lady. Her views were seasoned and reasonable.
You can have your view as valid too. It does come down to "what gets you by" on a day-to-day basis.

Of course things mattered to her.
Perspective was what she was getting at in our chat over the backyard fence.
I'd rather be able to discount and dismiss a lot of things.

We are, after all, "temps" in the largest sense of the word.

problem with that was... the  future retirement isnt looking so good. LOL

Realizing that it's **** soon enough to correct my course in life was crucial.

I honestly worried about whether or not I'd enjoy retirement, but it's been great not to have the stress of running a business now that I've retired at 69.  Even though I would have continued working if my health would have permitted it, but now that I've accepted the facts of what I can no longer do, it's been great!  Looking back at my years of work, I honestly don't know how I was able to do it so long.  And yes, having the money to be able to do anything I like is a huge factor, especially when it's apparent that so many Americans have lived their entire lives paycheck to paycheck, or have nothing saved for retirement and will be relying solely on SS. 
That's sad.
 

 

I have been smart enough to save a portion for so long it's not like I miss it.
It becomes routine assuming you can swing dumping 15% before taxes into a hole you may never get a chance at.
If you die too soon or whatever... pay the penalty and take it out early... That would suck.

But that's the risk and it pays off for most people that do it.
You don't hear of an old fart that said "I wish I didn't save so much money".

I am happy.  My jobs have been okay. Some great, some awful. I usually look ahead with goals I am trying to accomplish. In a year, it will come to fruition. I would love to say, but given all the stupid crap I posted here, I don't want to dox myself.
