is the strong, smart, moral thing to do. Example--
Kuwait (& you left-out Kuwait) was our oil-business partner.
Stopping Saddam Hussein was 100% good thing to do.
Saddam invaded Kuwait because Saddam was complaining about Kuwait drilling sideways wells under the Iraqi border and sucking oil from under Iraq. Kuwait could do this because the US allowed US drilling equipment suppliers to sell them equipment to do this and denied it to Iraq.
Olebush told his female ambassador to Iraq that "the US does not take positions in the borders of Middle Eastern countries (clearly a lie: that is all it does with regard to Israel, Egypt and Jordan). Olebush thought hat Saddam would jus seize the wells being violated. But Olebush was stupid about Saddam did and Saddam invaded Kuwait. ]
By the way, the Emir of Kuwait at the time was worried about US inflation and said that he was thinking about moving his biollions out of US banks into UK and European banks.
So he (a former CIA dirty trickster) wanted to use Saddam to punish The Kuwait Emir. A classic dirty trick.
But it backfired, since Saddam figured he was being given tacit permission to take over Kuwait, once a province of Iraq that the Brits had separated based on their lust for oil and the port of Basra.
Saddam was of course an asshole and a cruel dictator. Olebush thought that his invasion would topple Saddam, but it did not. The US go the Kuwaitis, the Saudis, the Emiris, Japan and others to pay for the cost of the war. It actually made a profit on it.
But Iraq refused to play along after the defeat and Juniorbush blamed him for 9/11, a lie. And the second Iraq War did far more damage to Iraq and its people than Saddam ever could have. Plus, it allowed the Syrian resistance to arm itself with Iraqi weapons that were abandoned when Saddam was defeated, and the creation of Isis.
