Gen Z is the beloved generation that is, whether we like it or not, our country's future. They will be most of the workforce, beginning in about a decade. What are your thoughts about Gen Z? Every generation, in the beginning, always gets a bad rap. "Kids these days...blah blah blah..." That's just tradition. It happened to my generation (Gen X) and it happened to the Millennials, it probably happened to the Boomers, etc...As time goes on, generations mature. 

I am just curious what your thoughts about them are. Do you feel confident? Are you afraid? neither? 




And @Nostradamus omh  , I know that you are going to go nuts on this thread, given that we are talking about generations. Would you horribly mind keeping it down to less than 100 million words though, as opposed to your 400 million pages?

Gen Z or those born starting in the late 90's are the first generation to have the full technological gambit in their lives. They have likely never experienced dial up, cable, terrestrial radio. They have never known anything other than ease of access to whatever they want as long as they can afford.

Overall, I am fairly confident in their abilities to keep things moving along. They still need to eat, drink, sleep, etc in order to survive and necessity is the mother of invention. 

I think that there are going to be some difficulties. Being that they are conditioned to ease of access... they are going to quite impatient. Every human being wants instant rewards.. it is nothing new to Gen Z. However, they are the first to really see it in action. As for them in the workforce, they are going to not simply soldier on in hopes of getting x or y done. They will be complain and then expect changes to happen this week or this pay period. When I came to the work force in 1994.. there was a little bit of that brewing.

I wonder where Gen Z falls, generally speaking, on the political spectrum. I know the Millennials fell  mostly toward the left. Boomers fell mostly to the right. Gen Xers, such as myself, don't give a ****. Keep in mind that the woke crowd does not represent the majority. They appear to because they are loud and whiny. However, being loud doesn't make them the majority.

hard to say...over my lifetime, each generation has deteriorated society as a whole...and it's acceleration seems to be increasing exponentially with each said generation...

The best generation were Gen-X'ers who rebelled against the Boomer-Hippie cock suckers.  Gen-X is mostly clean cut, preppy, and very capitalist.  They freaking wanted to make money and be wealthy - not poor, dirty hippies living in communes and single-wide trailers.

So, I expect the offspring from Gen-X to be pretty decent.  Not like the ***-millennials who are the offspring of dirty Boomer-Hippies.  They already hate millennials.  The downside - don't expect them to cut "old-people" any slack.  If you're old while Gen-Z, or Gen-X kids are running things and you don't have any money, YOU WILL BE SCREWED!!!

Good point. I am a GenXer, and I would say this is pretty accurate. However, I wouldn't say we are mostly clean cut and preppy. Maybe the females. The men are pretty rugged because our women like real men, not feminem  men.  Everything else is spot on.

What is unique about gen X? Simple we were the first generation to have the personal computer. We straddle the line between manual processes and when technology changed everything. Think of the changes that occurred in the 80's and early 90's. CD's instead of tapes, the Internet making newspapers and magazines less vital, cable TV was made obsolete by Dish?DirectTV, and then streaming, and job searches no longer being solely done by word of mouth/classified ads. Gen X did not have the ubiquity of technology of the ones after it.. therefore are resourceful enough to exist/operate without it.

There was a group of GenXers that were preppy.  This was a real thing. They (we) were very clean-cut.  They were ambitious in academics and ambitious in their work. They had ambitions of running wall street, banks, tech companies, etc.  Perhaps even later described as being a bit "cut-throat". The counter to this were the punks - morphed into goths. But, even these people ended up veering in the "right" direction when they were done trying to look scary.  It's not like GenX was all "one-thing".  But, the one thing they weren't were Lazy Hippies who wanted **** for nothing, protested **** they didn't understand and freeload off of the hard work of others.

This all started in London around the 1980 and it took several years for Americans to incorporate the music and "look" into a slightly more "preppy" version.

I am proud to be a Gen Xer. Overall, we are pretty resilient. I am not sure about our parenting skills though. Again, I am only generally speaking. Obviously, this is not true for every single parent. Most members of Gen Z are children of Gen X. There has become a shortage of teachers, more than usual, since the rise of Gen Z. The reason given is always the same: Disrespectful kids. I personally have witnessed it. It's awful. I mean really bad. It's more babysitting than teaching. GenX tends to suck at parenting.

I know some 40 year olds? Are they gen z-? NO

Yes, I am GenX.  And, before you go talking smack about some of those "fashion" photos I posted, I actually had some clothes as shown in a couple of the photos.  No, not the purple acid-wash outfit, but I did have an acid-wash denim jacket, along with a black denim jacket.

GenX is 1965 - 1980 birth years. The latest, 1980, would make them 42 or 43. So, a 40-year-old would be a Millennial...which means they suck donkey sacks.

GenX was definitely into outdoor activities. Surfing, skate-boarding, etc. in the US. In the UK, they were mostly white kids of factory workers who were taught to take pride in the way they dress - thus kids wearing Doc Martins, etc. Total opposite of Boomer-Trash.
