However, I doubt any of this can be reversed.

That is why the groomers hate the EC. It makes it much harder to turn New Haven into New York, Bakersfield into Baton Rouge, Champaign into Chicago, Hialeah into Hollywood, Saint Augustine into Seattle, Palm Bay into Portland.

They despise grass roots democracy - they want top down autocracy.

Actually, the federal government is intended to be the servant of the states. There should be very limited exposure to the federal government for ordinary people - limited to use of the federal courts, basically.

Because the STATES elect the President and Vice-President, not the PEOPLE.  It would be perfectly legal and Constitutional for the legislatures of the various states to simply appoint the electors of their choosing and give the voters of the state...or their Governor for that matter...no input (other that electing members of that state's legislature).

        This is where many get lost, and why Civics should be mandatory in Schools.... 
We are not a majority Democracy, nor were we setup or intended to be such... We are a Representative Constitutional Republic.... 
 
       The founding fathers established the Electoral College in Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution as a compromise between election of the President by a vote in Congress and election by a popular vote of the whole citizenry. It was designed to safeguard against undue influence by small groups, and to ensure that states with larger populations did not overpower or overshadow states with smaller populations... It also preserved the autonomy of States to have the prominent role to self-govern..

I put in bold what negated everything above it. dictatorship(1 person) are only different than democracies(1% population typecasting the other 99%) by the number of people demanding everyone obey what if scenarios or else.

A family home is usually a single family unit of 2 parents their biological children. Adopted children doesn't add linage to the non reproductive parents, but the adopted parents assure the next generation does survive. A greater good deed indeed.

However words interpret, not define, and when used definitively misdirect the natural course of evolving events past and current populaiton never staying same forms arrived so far.
Again evolving is a constant changing process, evolution is debating the potential it cannot be limiting reproductions to eternally separated now. You want to keep playing the semantics of a house divided, change house to species only surviving by each last generation replaces their previous 4 generations one great great grandchild at a time.

            Personally, I considered it a major letdown when California failed to follow through on their vaunted threats of a CAL-Exit when Trump became President....
