The original story "The Little Mermaid" is NOT a Dutch folktale, it is a short story written by Hand Christian Anderson, who is Danish, not Dutch.

I am sure it will make big bucks for Disney.

I imaging that "kink" refers to "Mermaiding", which is a special hobby in which girls and women pretend to be Mermaids.
The reviewer no doubt thought that the film did not make an adequate attempt to satisfy those who have adopted this hobby.

Some people, it seems exclusively or at least mostly women, seem to enjoy cosplaying mermaids.
I posted a link, that is all you are getting from me.

I am not really interested in this as a hobby. Perhaps there is a place for you as a merman, perhaps not.
