they are also leaving the gulf states in droves and the old 100+ year old Mutual companies have gone and are going out of business. Read an article the other day the average homeowners policy in FL is $4000/yr. People will have to go to their States risk pool for coverage, which may or may not be good enough coverage to please the mortgage company....see where this is going? Then ALL the tax payers in that State will have to pony up more and more taxes, or the Feds will have to start their own insurance company...It's pretty **** up.

$4,000 a year is moderate compared to other states.

I HATE them. Insurance companies have this nasty attitude. They want to  ONLY insure perfect homes?
NO- I pay you to insure mine-  like it is? stop hassling me about bushes! you assholes...

They made me install something that had worked for 30 years!  A separate chimney! My wood stove was hooked up to the same chimney  flu as the oil!
It actually works to burn off the crud. years!
After all that work- i had to pay 3 k to do what they wanted.... it somehow f'd up my oil furnace... I had a ton of trouble! i joined a havoc board for help- after 3 furnace guys- with a  over 150 years of experience--- couldn't figure it out...
That's where i got my name..... sooted up cyndi!   and i just kept it.

Just a few months ago- I had the same problem!  Leave us alone!
The Local insurance guy told me- There was never a house in Maine burn down because of this sheet! It actually cleans off the soot! the only thing a person has to be careful is- don't turn both on at once... duh?..
But we must comply! They disturbed something workin good? Never to be the same- oh we tried changing it back!
Everybody Leave me alone!!!!!!!!  cost me a ton of money!

It all boils down to CA demanding that some rates be decided by the state and not the insurers. All I have to say is feel free to hop the state line and come to NV or if you are so bold.. go to UT.

on what value home???? The average was probably $2000 or so .  When Insurance companies that were well over 100 years old, suddenly go out of business, it
means that $4000/yr isn't enough. People just don't understand. Insurance companies can NEVER lose money over any period of time. When they do, they are gone. And hopefully some other company is willing to buy up that book of business, or the policy holder is pretty screwed.

This is what I mean. You can't say that is cheap compared to other States. Look at where Florida sits in median home value. And HO premium is set mainly by the value of the home.

LOL. See, that's how stupid people really are. If they do that, there will be no insurance companies at all!

It was in response to the wildfires that have impacted NorCal the last few years. The thinking was that insurance companies could handle less profit and then it would slow the exodus of folks to NV, UT, and ID. Flawed thinking but there it is.

It's called INSURANCE for a reason. What happens if during whatever arbitrary period the government thinks the insurance companies can make "less profit" (how much less???), another MAJOR event hits and they can't pay the claims????? Not all companies are megas like Am Fam, State Farm, Nationwide....

oh I agree. Anyways, they should come to NV, UT, or ID. Both the insurers and the affected population. Will this population increase inevitably lead to more left-leaning politics.. probably. It already has.

In a fantasy, they would disappear but that I am not one to argue about fantasy. So there are two choices.. stay or go. Not every body that leaves CA is a die-hard liberal. Population growth is highly correlated with left-leaning politics.. it just is. My hometown, Boise, proof of this.
