It would be interesting to know how and why this happened.
Is a Leopard like a Ford Pinto? Was it a booby trap in the road? Operator error?

Primarily, its lack of training.  Most of these guys have no tank experience or they have
experience on old Soviet tanks.  They took them to Germany and gave them minimum training.
Im sure panic sets in as the shells fall and other tanks run over mines.  There are numerous pics
of the Leopards dying in groups of 3-6 - right next to each other. Its not the tanks - its inexperience and panic.

Yeah, that's why I threw the "operator error" in the mix.
The first tank confrontation over the Kuwait tiff was telling. Long ago I know but still...

The interview with one of the Abrams commanders picqued my interest.
He remarked one of the reasons they stomped the **** out of the Iraqis was training.
On top of that he said he had an exceptional loader. That guy made a huge difference.
As soon as he fired, he was taking aim at another.
The loader had him already set to go by the time he acquired the next target.
Never had to wait.

be sent into combat with 2-3 mos training.

Col Doug MacGregor, who was a tank operator in Iraq, and is
an outspoken commentator on this Uke war, said these Uke
tank operators look like a 13yo on the farm that just
learned to drive a stick this morning.
