While China mines and refines the largest amount of rare-earth metals, that does not mean that these elements don't exist elsewhere. The U.S. has large areas in New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, the Carolinas, Utah, Montana, Texas, California and other states that do in fact have untapped rare-earth resources.
