WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to impose new limits on state courts reviewing certain election-related issues by ruling against Republicans in North Carolina fighting for a congressional district map that would heavily favor their candidates.

The justices ruled in a 6-3 vote that the North Carolina Supreme Court was acting within its authority in concluding that the map constituted a partisan gerrymander under the state Constitution.

In doing so, the court declined to embrace a broad version of a hitherto obscure legal argument called the “independent state legislature” theory, which Republicans say limits the authority of state courts to strike down certain election laws enacted by state legislatures.

Supporters of former President Donald Trump cited the theory in various cases during the 2020 presidential election and its aftermath.

The ruling was widely welcomed by voting rights groups and Democrats who had been worried about the implications of a ruling that would curb state court power in 2024 and beyond.

The only people who whine about gerrymandering are the people NOT drawing the lines.

Ain’t that the truth.

The Republicans gerrymander black and brown people into reservations and Democrats do exactly the same thing to white people with red necks.

It’s always wrong.

Use county lines and major roads and large rivers, and let computers draw the districts.

You're DUMBER than a boxcar full of rocks.

Since LAWS REQUIRE equal populations in ALL drawn districts, you hardly can use "county lines and major roads and large rivers" to make every district one that is perfectly drawn to YOUR demands. You can't have 345, 219 people in one district and then another with 300,628 in another. THAT is in violation of the14th Amendment and other State and Federal laws.

Add to that, since your side DEMANDS not "diluting the voting strength of minorities", they REQUIRE the drawing of "minority majority" districts so that they can "have representation" of someone that meets Democrats demands. So drawing lines the way YOU WANT would "dilute" their voting strength and the Courts have ALREADY said that wasn't legal. See the case out of Alabama I believe that drew lines WITHOUT regard to SKIN COLOR and see what the Courts did there.

So you STILL get your RACIST DISTRICTS where NO WHITE PEOPLE have ANYONE representing their beliefs!!

They use computers to gerrymander, and both sides do it, and both sides are wrong.

You can program the computers to be righteous and not **** either side.

For example Missouri has the Missouri River dividing it.  The righteous computer program only divides any district where there’s a good bridge.

A righteous program cannot always use county lines but it prefers them, when it can, for two reasons.  First most all the county lines are so old they aren’t partisan.  Second a voter should vote in the county where his courthouse is, if possible.

Gerrymandering is very old, and it’s always evil.

If there are to be 350,000 per district, make those as square and contiguous as major rivers, roads and county lines allow.

Hate to tell you ****, you are WRONG about computers "Drawing lines" since that's NOT how it works. I've been involved on Committees that drew lines in 2 different Redistricting years- 2011 and also 2021. Census data is loaded into a PROGRAM and THEN you have to draw in lines MANUALLY by imputing the locations YOU want the boundaries to be. There was NO such thing as a "we can't **** you" programming. and our tools DID NOT have the capability to draw lines in any manner OTHER than to show existing boundaries.

Sucks you THINK that you know so much and are DUMB AS A PIG TURD when it comes to FACTUAL REALITY!!
