In 1961, the last Republican president with integrity, Dwight Eisenhower, warned against the gigantic power of the Military-Industrial Complex. Eisenhower's warning appears to have had little effect.  But it was spot-on as a prediction of what was to come:

The US has been engaged in nearly endless war since WWII. And the US has not won a war since WWII.  In that time, we've had very few commander-in-chiefs either willing or able to resist the financial leverage of the war industries.

It would appear these wars are not intended to be won, but only prolonged, as long as possible, for profit.  Out of 105 wars since WWII, despite overwhelming military superiority, the US has not won a single one of them..

The only way to change this is to elect a majority of elected officials in Washington, responsible to their constituents instead of Big Money.  As of now, we are far from that goal.  With the exception of a few congressional Democrats, most lawmakers are on the take.

The only way to end wars is for nations not to participate in them.  Despite its recent loss of respect under the Trump presidency, the US is still a major, international trend-setter.  And the example we are setting is one of war, all the time.  Usually, we avoid war with any group or nation which can fight back and engage only where we have the overwhelming advantage.

In regard to he Ukraine warWe are cynically using the Ukrainians to fight a war we are not willing to engage in ourselves.  We are using their willingness to fight for the enrichment of our own Military-Industrial Complex.  President Biden is happy to fight until the last Ukrainian is dead.  (That doesn't mean I don't approve of most of his domestic policies).

The killing has to end and be replaced by serious negotiations with some compromise possible.  Economic sanctions on Russia can still be continued, contingent on how the negotiations proceed.  International pressure needs to be put on both Ukraine and Russia to stop the killing.

The key to ending war is non-participation.
