the younger you retire, the longer your life expectancy is projected. should you take a lesser amount of social security and retire younger? or work longer, and get a bigger check? by working longer your life expectancy is reduced. in total dollars, you will end up getting more by working longer.  is it worth working longer?

by training your child hard to become a pro.  your child life expectancy drops to 41. before child labor laws, children who were forced to work hard, had an life expectancy of 34. keep active. but do not over do it. with modern medicine you might live to 134+.

when to retire? within your life time (if you are under 70) there will be a massive social revolution. wiping out all your assets. money, gone. investments, gone. real estate, redistributed. you will become equal to the poorest homeless beggar. /// live it up!!! soon comes the redistribution of wealth in usa.

Skans' Rules of Retirement:
  • Save and invest enough money over your lifetime so that you can comfortably retire some day. Make sure you have enough saved to live comfortably well into your '90's, with a substantial "buffer" for things you can't predict.
  • Retire from highly stressful work as soon as you are financially able  to.
  • Then, work for yourself or find a hobby (something that will not make you enough money to live on) that challenges you and you love doing.
  • Incorporate a regimented exercise routine in every day
  • Incorporate regular social activities through out your week
  • Social Security - consider it a monthly bonus.  Take it as soon as you can, because you may die before receiving the extra money for delaying.  And, if you NEED social security to live on, then you are not ready to retire.

Simple solution.  Have some preps.  Put 10% of your wealth in gold bullion.  In a SHTF, uber-inflation scenario
  • Your cash may devalue by 90%
  • Your corporate investments may drop by over 50%
  • Your gold reserve will increase by over 90%
  • Oh, and work on obtaining skills that other people will need in a SHTF scenario. Electrical skills, auto repair, small engine repair, computer repair.
  • Your preps will take care of you and your family during the "rough patch".

My hope is to live to 114.  Maybe I will run out of money before then.  Then, I'll move to San Francisco, where I can live for free, **** on the streets, piss on LGBQT storefronts, and vomit up blood in front of the LGBQT coffee shop.

You want to be a helpless, frail shadow for the last 2 or 3 decades of your life?

To each his own.

I look at EVERY 85 year old I have ever met and think that is about my limit.
If I missed one that I thought was worth pushing myself to emulate, please forgive me.
In the end, that one doesn't convince me to push past the other 99%.

I can puke and **** in my 70's just as well.
Please seat yourself.

I did the math...

collect at 62 or 66-1/3?

if I waited until 66-1/3 it would take until I turned 84 to finally break even and then start garnering more......**** THAT...

Take your SS early before it is given to hapless ***, crackers and illegal aliens. Exercise regularly, and when life is no longer fun, or all of your assets are slated to go to the state for nursing care, do yourself and your loved ones a favor...stick a punctured can of starting fluid in a heavy-duty plastic sack tied around your neck and take a long nap.

You raise a good point, and I've thought a good spell about that. The answer is "yes".  I would like to live to be 114. I am a very curious person who wants to possibly see:
  • Where will AI be by then
  • After the UFO hearings, I'd like to see what comes of that - whether the government ever acknowledges Alien visitations, and what that's all about.
  • To what extent our understanding of physics and materials science has evolved.
  • To make sure my wife never feels loneliness
  • And to see what becomes of my progeny.
I think its worth it.  After all, I only get one chance to die - so make it an interesting life and a good death!

Quality of life is extremely important. One of those qualities is basic awareness.
You are assuming you will even know if the TV is on or not. Or who's in your one-room world.

Most people who have watched the elders in their circle of friends would agree it happens very quickly.
Cognitive decline, immobility, health in general, sleep disorders, eating disorders, difficulty swallowing, etc.
All this (and more) is more common than not.

I do not want to be part of the "I've fallen and can't get up" crowd. **** that.
Please seat yourself.

Then, kill yourself now.  Getting old is not for the faint-hearted.  If you live long enough, falling and not being able to get up will be the least of your concerns.  **** and pissing yourself in public might be mildly embarrassing.  But, what they do to your pecker, your asshole, and ever other orifice on your body during those long stays in a hospital and/or a nursing home is painful, debilitating, confining, and scary.  I saw what they did to my Dad and then my Mom.  I thought I had balls of stainless steel until I had to see all of that.

The good thing is that the Good Lord will turn off a man's Testosterone juice long before you get to experience any of this fun.  So, whatever pride you may have now won't even exist then.

You may notice I did not get **** with you.
Thanks for going off the rails and suggesting I kill myself.

The Good Lord has little to do with this conversation.
Btw: You are dying the second you are born.

Btw2: The last guy I knew that said to me on a golf course he wanted to live to 100 died the next year.
Didn't even come close.

I said it tong-in-cheek to make a point; not trying to get **** with you.

And, as for what I want - i.e. to live to 114, and what I actually get - that's all in God's hands for sure.

...or the bus driver that's half asleep thundering toward you in your wheel chair.

btw- this entire conversation has to be tongue-in-cheek.  ;)
I'm just **** with you too.
It is a dark comedy to expect or predict this ****. Nobody here is Billy Pilgrim.
