OROVADA, Nevada (AP) — Just 45 miles (72 kilometers) from the Fort McDermitt Indian Reservation where Daranda Hinkey and her family corral horses and cows, a centerpiece of President Joe Biden’s clean energy plan is taking shape: construction of one of the largest lithium mines in the world.

As heavy trucks dig up the earth in this remote, windswept region of Nevada to extract the silvery-white metal used in electric-vehicle batteries, the $2.2 billion project is fueling a backlash. “No Lithium. No mine!″ proclaims a large hand-painted sign in Hinkey’s front yard.

The Biden administration says the project will help mitigate climate change by speeding the shift away from fossil fuels. But Hinkey and other opponents say it is not worth the costs to the local environment and people.

By helping replace gasoline and diesel there will be more oil for plastics and drugs.

Just goes to show you how **** MORONIC this statement really is.

First of all, it TOTALLY exposes you lack of understanding on HOW PETROLEUM IS REFINED in order to MAKE PRODUCTS FROM THE VARIOUS COMPONENTS. Gas and Diesel fuel are but 2 PRODUCTS that are "cracked" out in the refining process. WITHOUT removing those, then you have NO WAY To make OTHER oil based products from the OTHER petro based refined products. If it takes 5,000 barrels of oil to make a million square feet of nylon today, it takes that SAME NUMBER OF BARRELS TOMORROW for the same amount of fiber.

The ISSUE you seems to forget is that Gas and Diesel is STILL coming from that SAME REFINING RUN and instead of it being SOLD AS FUEL, it is NOW DISPOSED OF AS AN "unwanted" byproduct. FURTHER causing environment damage FAR GREATER than we have happening today!!

When Rockefeller started Standard Oil to make KEROSENE, Gasoline was a unwanted BY PRODUCT that no one wanted or had any use for. So it was DUMPED by the millions of barrels full around his refineries. It wasn't until the advent of the INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE that used gasoline did it have ANY value whatsoever and even then, it was considered a FAD and only sold for little to nothing just to get rid of it.

So your MORONIC **** again gets EXPOSED as the LIES AND **** UP **** YOU ALWAYS POST!!

Approximately 80% of the world's oil reserves are in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)
—-

I looked it up and 3% of oil is used for plastics and 4% for drugs and about 4% for fertilizers.

The world’s refineries are designed to maximize motor fuel, and they are good at that.

—-

Petroleum refineries in the United States produce about 19 to 20 gallons of motor gasoline and 11 to 12 gallons of ultra-low sulfur distillate fuel oil (most of which is sold as diesel fuel and in several states as heating oil) from one 42-gallon barrel of crude oil.

—-

You have pointed out a wonderful problem the world will have in a few decades.

As electrics replace gasoline and diesel transport fuel prices will have to fall to ridiculously low levels to sell off excess gasoline and diesel, which will prompt development of refineries that reverse a century old trend of ever more motor fuel.

And to support domestic oil we’ll see tariffs on OPEC oil.

But all the kings horses cannot stop electric transport, now.

Those lithium batteries are ten times cheaper in new Teslas than decade old Teslas.

And today the cheapest new source of electricity is wind at two cents a kilowatt hour.

In ten years all the MAGAS will want new EVs.

Tell me how much you just love buying gas and diesel fuel.  Ain’t it fun?

And how many tears will you shed when Arabs all ride camels again?.Image

You STUPID idiot.

Do you realize that to have an OIL PRODUCT you can make plastics, drugs and fertilizers from, you STILL have to use the SAME AMOUNT OF CRUDE OIL as is being used today??

It's MORE than obvious you have ZERO knowledge of petroleum distillation. YOU GOT CAUGHT PULLING **** OUT OF YOUR *** on this one!!

There won’t be, any more oil.

In addition to authorizing a 2 billion dollar lithium mine in Nevada that’s pissing of the Indians, Brandon has authorized oil drilling in Alaska that will piss off the Eskimos.

But Uncle Joe’s Alaska oil way up close to the North Pole will cost ten or twenty times more to get to a refinery than an Arab drilling oil any place in the desert he wants to drill, and there’s a gusher of oil.

What a future President will have to do, is protect Alaska oil from Kuwait oil.  The Alaska oil might cost $50 a barrel to extract and in Kuwait it’s peanuts, the cost of drilling in sand.

The new electric cars are at least three times more efficient than the best gas cars.  Plus they’ll be powered every night from 2 cents an hour wind farms, not oil.

Plus won’t you just cry, never having a gas motor and transmission to service and wear out?

All the engine and transmission rebuild shops are doomed.

bruce, we'll run out of lithium and other rare battery components before we run out of oil...

The way capitalism works, is all those greedy Republicans, just legions of those bastards, go chasing a dollar and find more lithium and they won’t need to find more  oil for maybe hundreds of  years.

Look way up in the sky.

Thousands of two hundred million dollar jet liners are up there, about six miles high, flying 550 miles an hour,  leaving contrails.

Some MAGAS call them chemtrails.

Turbine engines can drink low grade fuel oil.  I’d guess they could be made to run benzine.

By the way, there’s a spot on my yard of my home place I can show you where my mother pointed out a jet plane about 1964, when I was six, and asked me

How do all those people fly, way up there?

And I said, can we go inside and look it up in the World Books?

I am the worst teacher in the world, but my mother was the world’s best teacher.

She made me WANT, to learn.

Current state of the art electrics use about 17 pounds of lithium each, but Tesla’s still use 140 pounds each.

—-
A typical EV battery (NMC532) contains roughly 8 kilos (17 lbs) of lithium carbonate, 35 kilos (77 lbs) of nickel, 20 kilos (44 lbs) of manganese and 14 kilos (30 lbs) of cobalt.Mar 10, 2023
—-

The last I checked 17 pounds of lithium cost less than $500, which is the price of the deluxe floor mat option on the car.

And lithium prices are expected to keep falling, and falling, and falling as more new mines open.

Elon Musk is one of the very richest men in the world and next year will sell two million electric vehicles.

In ten years he may sell five or ten million a year.

We’ll  buy one because it’s way, way better than the car we all own now.

They operate on three cents a mile, and have no gas engine or transmission to wear out.

In 2022, the total estimated reserves of lithium worldwide amounted to 26 million metric tons. This was the largest observed reserve volume over the past decade. Lithium is a soft, silver-white metal within the alkali metal group on the periodic table.Feb 10, 2023
