     Marine Corps Sgt. Nicole Gee was killed in Afghanistan in 2021. Her remains were initially flown to her hometown of Roseville, California for a ceremony, but because of a technicality under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) the Pentagon refused to pay to transport her to Arlington National Cemetery for burial.

     An amendment to last year’s NDAA states that the Secretary of Defense is able to provide a fallen service member’s next of kin “a commercial air travel use waiver for the transportation of deceased remains of a military member who dies inside a theater of combat operations,”

     Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) spoke with Fox and said that he learned of the situation last week during a meeting with 13 Gold Star families.     “Typically, our fallen heroes are flown back home for a solemn service and then laid to a final rest at Arlington Cemetery with the utmost respect and honor,” Mills said. “It is an egregious injustice that grieving families were burdened to shoulder the financial strain of honoring their loved ones. This is an unacceptable situation that demands immediate rectification.”

A Republican congressman from Florida has walked back his claim that the Defense Department "placed a heavy financial burden" on the family of a Marine killed in a suicide bombing during the chaotic U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Rep. Cory Mills, an Army veteran, told Fox News on Tuesday that after meeting with the families of 13 U.S. service members killed on Aug. 26, 2021, at Hamid Karzai International Airport's Abbey Gate, he learned that the family of Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee was stuck with a $60,000 bill from the Pentagon to transport her remains to Arlington National Cemetery.

But Gee's family said they were not billed by the Pentagon at all. Since the article was published, Mills issued a statement saying the family was confused in its grief, and Fox News edited its headline and story without noting a correction. On Friday, it appeared the article had been removed entirely.

"We did not have to pay any bill and never had a bill presented," Christy Shamblin, Gee's mother-in-law, told Military.com on Friday via social media.

Honoring Our Fallen, a nonprofit that supports families of deceased service members -- to include help during the transfer of dignified remains, paid for Gee's remains to be transported by private flight from California to Arlington National Cemetery.

Gee, 23, deployed to aid in the evacuation and withdrawal of Afghanistan in the late summer of 2021. There, a suicide bomb attack killed a Navy corpsman, a soldier and 11 Marines, including Gee.

That dead Marine likely did cost $60,000 to lay to eternal rest at Arlington.  America picked up the bill.

Arlington is a righteous cemetery, by the way, ran by Christians.

Her sacrifice she made for us won’t be forgotten until Our Savior comes again, to gather His sheep.

Mainstream news hardly ever fabricates a story, and when a reporter does fabricate a story they get fired, and have to work for “conservative news” of they’ll have them.

actually it was Kiley and Mills that misinformed FOX that has since pulled the story...BTW, her remains were shipped home to CA and yes, it would have cost the family to ship her remains to Arlington had it not been for a generous pilot and Honoring Our Fallen nonprofit group...
