I’ve owned many 1911s but, since I discovered the 44 Special Ruger Flattop Blackhawk, consider the 1911 an inaccurate and underpowered mechanical contraption best suited for showing a buddy

Here, lookie at my 1911

Ain’t it cool?

I still own one 1911.  Every gun nut should have one.

You are inaccurate, not the 1911. If you shoot the "E", you'd understand. Underpowered? Yes, for Grizzly bears maybe. You must be hunting bear or other big game with your new big toy. If you want a real single action, fork out some money for a Colt SAA. But you can pretend with that Ruger until you gather funds.

As a military pistol the 1911 has no equal firing hardball.

I’m too damned old to be in the cavalry.Image

And yes, to fondle and love a new Colt 44 Special New Frontier is a far better looking revolver, made in Connecticut, beautifully color case hardened, and without peer for being a cool —

Lookie here at my genuine Colt Model P!

Ain’t it cool!.Image

Of Elmer Kieth came back, he’d shoot a pair of Ruger 44 Special Flattops, and keep the Colts to show off.

I shoot thousands of 7.5 grains of Unique under a 240 grain Keith bullet flat top swaged semi wad cutter Skeeter Loads, at about 975 feet per second.

My 44 Flattops are as accurate as the best Sharps Billy Dixon ever used.

And I keep a few XX grains of 2400 Keith Loads that come out at 1,200 feet per second with black magic markers on the primers.

Look up the Kieth Load.

In a hundred more years the Keith  load will still be the ultimate outdoors handgun load, in a Ruger 44 Special Flattop.

And 99% of the loads ran through those Flattops will be Skeeter Loads.

Skeeter Load

Keith Load

Drop it a half grain to XX

The accuracy of the Ruger 44 Special out of the box is the equal of a genuine Sharps.

A five gallon bucket at 400 yards is toast.

Shoot a few thousand Skeeter loads through a Flattop 44 Special Ruger and you’ll never laugh at Elmer shooting running wounded mule deer at 600 yards again.

The sights are perfect.  You can spot your misses, even see the bullet in flight.

Elmer told the truth.

I was a Republican for 44 years.

We Elmer Keith fans keep Missouri Bullet Company so low on Keith bullets we have to buy coated ones.

I own three 44 Magnums.

The 44 Mag has a 1/10” gap in the cylinder to shoot a REAL Skeeter Load through it.

So 44 Mag wanna be Skeeter loads are 8.5 grains of Unique.

They aren’t real Skeeter loads.

A real Skeeter load in a real 44 Special Colt Model P sized (not magnum sized) revolver is just as intuitive to hit with as the original 1873 Colt Model P.

My Ruger 44 Specials have 4 3/4” barrels.  My Chrony says Skeeters leave about 975 feet per second and Keiths leave at 1,200.

As Elmer noted at 400 yards the sight picture is the same between loads.  Don’t ask me why, it just is.

The advantage of 975 fps Skeeter loads is I can and do shoot hundreds at a session and smile.

I quit smiling after about 18 or 24 Keith loads.:)

Keith loads are hot, to shoot a lot of.

Sometimes, an old friend asks me why a lifelong conservative Republican would convert at age 44 to becoming a Democrat to the wall, 100% better a dead blue dog than a living Republican.

Because as a Christian I know waterboarding helpless prisoners is evil and always wrong.

These Democrats let me keep all my guns though.:)

I didn’t leave the Republican Party, it left my Christian values choking in a cess pool of lies.
