Liberal Forum

The Republican Party has made it plain that 2024 is the election year in which they plan to replace Democracy with Fascism.  They plan to make our elections a mockery by various forms of cheating and election-rigging.  Democrats and patriotic Conservatives are in for the fight of their lives to preserve Democracy in the USA.

We have arrived at a demographic point where fair and Democratic elections cause the Far Right loses more elections than not,  The old generation of Far Right Wing voters is rapidly being replaced by Millennials and Gen Z, who lean further to the Left.

Since circa 1980, US politics have slightly favored the Right, culminating in the 2016 election of Donald Trump and the installation of a Far Right Supreme Court.  But US demographics has slowly been working against Far Right majorities.

Being aware of this, Republicans have used gerrymandering, voter-suppression and other means to falsify the will of the electorate.  If they can't install, at least a Republican president in 2024, the Republicans will either have to move their politics Left, or go the way of the Whigs.

I get a kick out of a progressive leftist saying that anyone is scheming against "the will of the electorate".

It is bull **** to think the next election is a turning point.

The worst that can happen is Trump wins, pardons himself, and is an even worse villain to history than he is, and drags along all the Republicans who voted for the clown.

This nation is far larger than one man.

We have checks and balances that held Trump to only giving the rich a huge tax cut as his only legislative accomplishment, in four years.

And the four years of Trump did more damage to the Republican Party than anything other than four more years would.

Trump would likely appoint old Margie Taylor Greene to the cabinet.

That ought to make him really popular with Melania.

I access the site through my phone and the bookmark for this site is the main page... which shows all the currently active threads on the front page without discerning what sub forum they are in.

I saw your thread under "Active Topics" and replied... without ever looking at what sub forum it was in.

I have to ask though... why post it in a dead subforum anyway?  You would get more views and comments by posting it where the actual active members are.

Everyone makes mistakes.  Maybe you really did make a mistake.

That said, I'm having a tough time believing you:
          1 -  M first answer to your post was cheerful and positive, giving you a graceful way out.  Instead, you proceeded to post a gratuitous insult.
          2 -  If you were honest, you would have skipped the verbal abuse and simply explained that you made a mistake.   I would have believed you and that would have been the end of it.

Wrong. If Trump get back into the White House our democracy will end. Their plan to obliterate those "checks and balances" is already in the works.  And the greatest danger to said democracy, imo, are people who THINK that can't possibly happen.

Exactly B.See.  The Republican Party is abandoning Democracy.  Those who contend USA Democracy is immune from reversion to authoritarian rule, reiterate the deceit of Far Right MAGA fraudsters.

Independent State Legislature theory essentially claims the right of secretaries of state and state legislatures to overturn the votes of the electorate in any given state. 

As probably all of us are aware, the Far Right Supreme Court struck down the Independent State Legislature Theory ....  It would have been a death knell for Democracy. 

But, in defiance of the Federal Government,  many of the Far Right state legislatures are still more than likely to invoke Independent State Legislature Theory, disenfranchising the voters.   It is difficult to see by what mechanism, except military action, these modern-day traitors can be denied.  This is similar to to succession of of the first Confederate States in 1860.

Never before, in the history of the US has Democracy been in so much danger.
