After the end of World War Two every pretty Fraulien in Germany over 14 could be rented for the night for a candy bar or a package of cigaretts.

My Uncle Jiggs would fondly tell me about his Fraulien he spent a couple of weeks at her parent’s home, in April 1945.

She cost a carton of Luckies for her, and he gave her old man five dollars, but got his watch makers outfit  in return.
  
The granddaughters are still available to American soldiers in Germany today, but no doubt the price has gone up considerably.

There we’re just endless numbers of songs about the German girl over there the soldier could never forget.

DURING THE WAR, MY UNCLE ADOLPH HAD QUITE THE STORIES ABOUT THE MANY JEWISH HUSSIES THAT REALLY ENJOYED THE DIFFERENT SHAPES AND SIZES OF KNOCKWURST, BRATWURST, BIERWURST, WEISSWURST AND MOST ESPECIALLY THE VERY LONG SAUSAGE, KRAINERWURST. Uncle Jiggs was a machine gunner, but never heard a gun go off. What the army did with good Christian boys like him was put him behind a machine gun and set him about a thousand yards away from a little town , behind a rise.  Another boy would spot for him.

Made Christians out of those German civilians traveling the roads, for sure and certain.

 
They never knew which direction there was a machine gunner with a spotter that would kill a bunch of them, if they didn’t stay peacefully surrendered.

And each night he enjoyed a hot meal, a soft bed, and a warm Fraulien.

She spoke and wrote perfect English.  She sent his mother letters for about thirty years.

In World War One my Grandmother’s brother and my Uncle Elmer were adjutants guarding general staff officers.

They did  manage to both have beautiful mademoiselles write a series of letters back home, to let their darling mothers at home know they were not in any danger and living under good care, of  a pretty set of eyes that loved them.
