 What do most Americans say?

Sixty-five percent of Americans supported selecting the President by popular vote, compared to 32% who preferred the Electoral College in a June 2018 PRRI/Atlantic survey.

There’s less support if the wording includes changing the Constitution.

Pew survey in March of 2018 asked if Americans supported amending the Constitution to select the President by popular vote and a smaller 55%, still a popular majority, endorsed the idea.

With Instant Run-off Voting, we would determine a true majority winner in one election and banish the spoiler concept. Voters would not have to calculate possible perverse consequences of voting for their favorite candidate. They could vote their hopes, not their fears."

The Popular Vote would most likely drive presidential candidates spend more time in all states as opposed to
focusing only on the states with the largest Electoral College numbers.

Electing our Presidents by popular vote would require 38 states to approve a constitutional amendment and would still not solve the Trump problem.

We have a constitutional republic of fifty states that conduct federal elections for President.

I propose Congress provides a federal law for the death penalty by public hanging for any attempted election fraud of substitution of fake electors for authorized electors.

That would make Christians out of all future Trumps.:)

This is not about a Trump problem necessarily. It's a matter of having every vote count nothing more nothing less.
A majority vote wins should be the rule of law.

NO ****, a "popular vote" would result in ONLY THE STATES where winning the popular vote would be CAMPAIGNED IN!!

States like NY, ILLINOIS, NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY, FLORIDA AND TEXAS. NO other states would ever see a candidate.

Who actually elects the president quizlet?

Every four years, the president and vice president are elected through a system based on the Electoral College. The Electoral College is a group of people, called presidential electors, who are chosen in each state and Washington D.C. who cast the formal votes for the president and vice president.

Who votes directly to elect a President?

In other U.S. elections, candidates are elected directly by popular vote. But the president and vice president are not elected directly by citizens. Instead, they are chosen by "electors" through a process called the Electoral College
