Sixty-five percent of Americans supported selecting the President by popular vote, compared to 32% who preferred the Electoral College in a June 2018 PRRI/Atlantic survey.

There’s less support if the wording includes changing the Constitution.

Pew survey in March of 2018 asked if Americans supported amending the Constitution to select the President by popular vote and a smaller 55%, still a popular majority, endorsed the idea.

The electoral college is a CONSTITUTIONAL mandate... and was placed INTO the Constitution 250 years ago, when during the Constitutional Convention, smaller states feared that a "direct majority vote" would damage their interests, who did not have as many people, and so... larger states would IGNORE their needs, and DICTATE the preference of their own desires...

The electoral college provided a better ability for smaller states to have THEIR voices heard... IT WAS the ONLY WAY that the "United States of America" were agreed to, that the Constitution was signed, and has been IN PLAY for the last 247 YEARS... ELIMINATE IT, and you HAVE no United States of America... the larger states will have BROKEN the Covenant, and theoretically the USA would be dissolved !!

I DON'T think this is something Democrats want to press !!

Aren't you confusing Declaration of Independence with the first ratificiation of the Constitution wasn't until sept. 1789. Bill of rights wasn't added until Jan. 1791.

Declaration of Independence was radification this country wouldn't be part of the world theater of doubts anymore but that only lasted 4 score and 7 years.

There was over a decade where this country wasn't legalized on the world stage. Once it was legalized, then came the intellectuals to divide it up again in 3 generations or less.

Reproductive cycles are about every 20 years, generation gap has siblings up to 20 years range first born to last arriving. Now look at economic cycles going up and down? Every decade there is a drop in certain countries about to change governance styles forward.

Planned obsolescence working within compounding chromosomes pitting the species against its self playing with the nature of sibling rivalries between ideologies for generations forward.
Psychological class warfare by malcontents angry about nobody asking them if they wanted to live one of a kind equally timed apart now specifically being eternally separated in plain sight.

Why reasonable doubt is so important to people that loathe time as self evidently here. See, I cover means, motives, methods, social opportunities to lead or follow social consensus or get eliminated from humanity anywhere in this atmosphere.

Guess where mayhem, madness, misery comes from fighting over which ideology rules the world now.

Power, wealth fame comes to those selling symbolism over substance matters most. Ruthless pursuit of ignoring genetics eternally separates active reproductions populating space exactly as taking place now.

Self evident describes something that people deny and ancestors die wishing they were anyone else but all they were since conceived.

The Electoral College is a process, not a place. The Founding Fathers established it in the Constitution, in part, as a compromise between the election of the President by a vote in Congress and election of the President by a popular vote of qualified citizens.

What is the process?

The Electoral College process consists of the selection of the electors, the meeting of the electors where they vote for President and Vice President, and the counting of the electoral votes by Congress.

How many electors are there? How are they distributed among the States?

The Electoral College consists of 538 electors. A majority of 270 electoral votes is required to elect the President. Your State has the same number of electors as it does Members in its Congressional delegation: one for each Member in the House of Representatives plus two Senators. Read more about the allocation of electoral votes.

The District of Columbia is allocated 3 electors and treated like a State for purposes of the Electoral College under the 23rd Amendment of the Constitution. For this reason, in the following discussion, the word “State” also refers to the District of Columbia and “Executive” to the State Governors and the Mayor of the District of Columbia.

How are my electors chosen? What are their qualifications? How do they decide who to vote for?

Each candidate running for President in your State has their own group of electors (known as a slate). The slates are generally chosen by the candidate’s political party in your State, but State laws vary on how the electors are selected and what their responsibilities are. Read more about the qualifications of the electors and restrictions on who the electors may vote for.

What happens in the general election? Why should I vote?

The general election is held every four years on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. When you vote for a Presidential candidate you are actually voting for your candidate's preferred electors. Learn more about voting for the electors.

Most States have a “winner-take-all” system that awards all electors to the Presidential candidate who wins the State's popular vote. However, Maine and Nebraska each have a variation of “proportional representation.
With Instant Run-off Voting, we would determine a true majority winner in one election and banish the spoiler concept. Voters would not have to calculate possible perverse consequences of voting for their favorite candidate. They could vote their hopes, not their fears."

Where these LWNJ's like @razoo  FAILS is they think that the United States is some kind of "democracy"!!

WHEN they learn that we are a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLICAN CONFEDERATION OF STATES, then they MIGHT understand that the ":popular vote" is TOTALLY MEANINGLESS and that the Electoral College is the BEST WAY to preserve the rights of the MINORITY without the MAJORITY becoming a FASCIST DICTATORSHIP!!

But the REALITY IS, they are DEMANDING that FASCIST DICTATORSHIP as long as it it THEIR SIDE doing the DICTATING!!

Exactly. The blacks and Hispanics are running away from the dims in high numbers. That's saying something. I am surprised the Hispanics are leaving given that Biden allows the Mexicans to just walk right in. You know the dims are **** when even the Hispanics are bailing.

The Latinos bailing came from COMMUNIST nations that they fled from. And they see where the Dhimocrat party is now and want NO PART of their Commie ways or desires. And we have people like ****** boy @maineman  that just demands MORE OF THE SAME **** from his COMMUNIST Democrat party. Without any doubt, they are too stupid to see what is happening  or have been so indoctrinated, they want Communism.

At this point in history the fake republicans have allowed the ELECTORAL COLLEGE to be a part of voter fraud
through gerrymandering and other forms of voter suppression.

How many surveyed and how was the survey conducted? Oh CNN did it, never mind my rhetorical question. Great misdirection, people that live life hoping real isn't real will never experience the serenity of knowing all there is to understand about being alive here now.

Must be hell living to create mayhem, madness, misery on anyone not paying to believe your ****.
