WASHINGTON—Former President Donald Trump’s federal trial on charges that he conspired to overturn his 2020 election loss will start March 4, 2024, a judge said Monday, one day before Super Tuesday, when voters in 14 states will cast their primary ballots for the next presidential election.

“My primary concern here is the interest of justice and that I’ve balanced the defendant’s right to adequately prepare” with the need for an efficient trial, said U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who made the ruling at a hearing in Washington.

Chutkan refused a request from Trump, the current front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination, to push off his trial until April 2026, saying defense attorneys didn’t need two years to examine the extensive evidence in the case. But she also said prosecutors’ request for a Jan. 2, 2024, start date—two weeks before the first Republican primary votes will be cast in Iowa’s Jan. 15 caucuses—didn’t give defense attorneys enough time to prepare.

Trump can’t appeal the trial date, but he can seek to delay it through pretrial motions, which his lawyers have signaled they intend to do.

C hutkan said she considered the timing of the case against three other state and federal trials of Trump that will likely start within weeks or months of each other, straining his defense team and ensuring Trump will spend much of the 2024 election year engaged in legal struggles.

Do you think they’ll bring up what a son of a bitch Trump’s father was while he was growing up to try and get him less prison time?

Chutkan is showing her bias.
This date won't stand, and it's already grounds for mistrial.

There’s no appeal of a trial date.

This is by far, and away the most important criminal trial in the history of the entire federal judiciary.

If Trump is convicted, and the evidence against him is beyond overwhelming, he can have one appeal to the proper federal appellate court and if SCOTUS decides to hear  it, to the Supreme Court.

Not only did Trump commit all the crimes he’s charged with he’s admitted them and doesn’t seem to understand what he did was criminal.

A sane man would work out a plea bargain.

He already has, in Atlanta.

Donald John Trump is a private citizen.

Unless Congress repeals the laws affording him Secret Service Protection he’ll be entitled to a Secret Service guard 24/7 but otherwise he’ll be another prisoner.

Sorry, but this isn't enough time for Trump to prepare and adequate defense, and therefore it's going to mean a straight appeal.
The timing is clearly political and has nothing to do with the law.

The prosecutor has a right to a speedy trial.

And there is no doubt whatsoever about the facts.

Trump’s motive was he thought he’d been cheated.

That’s sort of like a man with a grudge at the bank trying to steal money from the bank.

There is simply no appeal over a trial date, and especially not one over a half a year away.

Multiply his odds of jail by four pending criminal cases.

And Arizona might file a RICO as well.

Trump is so broke or stupid he’s letting a black co defendant rot in the nasty Atlanta jail.

He can’t afford the lawyer fees for himself much less over a dozen others, all of whom will flip rather than face hard time.

He’s just insane to not try and make a universal deal to get house arrest in Mara A Largo.

He’s not just waking away from filing SEVEN fake Certificates that affirm he won seven states he actually lost.

The goddamn partisan judge set the trial date for the day before Super Tuesday.  Tell me that is not politically motivated persecution to keep Trump from the campaign trail.  Fact is all of Trumps trial dates have been set the day before or day after many state primaries to intentionally keep him from campaigning.

Goddamn it is glaringly obvious the partisan persecution of Trump in a dim-0-crap attempt to keep him from campaigning.

You are worse than a **** eating dog, brucie!!!

The government is arguing a trial in DC is needed sooner to stop President Trump from posting on social media about the persecution against him. They want to stop him from speaking out any further about their election interference!
