The shocking Republican plan to dismantle the American government | Opinion (msn.com)

As we learned from last week’s Republican debates, the leading candidates for the GOP nomination all appear to agree on a broad plan to gut American government and replace it with a strongman president and corporate rule. The modern administrative state, sometimes called the “welfare state” by Republicans, was largely created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in response to the Republican Great Depression of the early 1930s. And every day since FDR was sworn into office on March 4, 1933, the GOP has worked feverishly to dismantle his legacy.
Nations across the rest of Europe, South America, and Asia imitated FDR’s and LBJ’s America, most going beyond our simple development of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the legalization of unions to further expand opportunity and social mobility for their citizens. For example, Taiwan has the most efficient and comprehensive single-payer healthcare system in the world; Germany requires half of the members of every large corporation’s board of directors to come from the ranks of organized labor; Luxembourg has the highest national minimum wage in the world at roughly $19.50 an hour (they calculate it monthly).
Prisons across the rest of the developed world are committed to rehabilitation and only in America are run for profit; every other developed country carefully regulates the possession of guns; pharmaceuticals are inexpensive — at least half, and sometimes a tenth of their cost here in the US — in every other developed country in the world. Republicans and the billionaires who fund them reject all of that. They want to abandon modern ideas like prohibitions on child labor and the age of consent; worker and workplace protections and unions; free, quality public schools and colleges; civil rights and the power of women to make their own healthcare decisions. They’re dedicated to taking America back to the era before the New Deal and, as Steve Bannon said, “deconstructing the administrative state.”
The Heritage Foundation bankrolled Reagan who adopted over half of their suggestions and in some cases went even farther, cutting enforcement of our anti-trust lasw; ending the Fairness Doctrine; slashing the top income tax rate on the morbidly rich from 74 percent down to 27 percent; declaring all-out war on unions; gutting the EPA, Education, and Labor Departments; and selling off federal lands for pennies on the dollar to mining and drilling operations.

The Biden-Harris Administration has hit the ground running to implement the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and it is already delivering results for the people of Texas. To date, $15 billion in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding has been announced and is headed to Texas with over 589 specific projects identified for funding. Since the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed, approximately $12.6 billion has been announced for transportation – to invest in roads, bridges, public transit, ports and airports – and roughly $1 billion has been announced for clean water in Texas. And, as of today, more than 1,359,000 households across the state are receiving affordable high-speed internet due to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Many more projects will be added in the coming months, as funding opportunities become grant awards and as formula funds become specific projects. By reaching communities all across Texas – including rural communities and historically underserved populations – the law makes critical investments that will improve lives for Texans and position the state for success.
Roads and Bridges: In Texas, there are 818 bridges and over 19,440 miles of highway in poor condition. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will rebuild our roads and includes the single largest dedicated bridge investment since the construction of the interstate highway system. Based on formula funding alone, Texas is expected to receive approximately $27.5 billion over five years in federal funding for highways and bridges.

  ● Announced funding to date: To date, $10.7 billion has been announced in Texas for roads, bridges, roadway safety, and major projects. This includes:
o $10.5 billion in highway formula funding and $230.7 million in dedicated formula funding for bridges in 2022 and 2023.

o $101.6 million through the RAISE program and $25 million through the INFRA program in 2022 and 2023.

  Announced Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding is as of April 20, 2023

Internet: High-speed internet is necessary for Americans to do their jobs, participate in school, access health care, and stay connected. Yet nearly 25% of Texans do not have an internet subscription. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law invests $65 billion to provide affordable, high-speed internet to every American. Texas will receive a minimum allocation of at least $100 million to help ensure high-speed internet coverage across the state. Additionally, experts estimate that as many as 3,927,000 households in Texas are eligible for the Affordable Connectivity Program, which cuts internet bills by up to $30 per month, or $75 for households on Tribal lands, and provides a one-time $100 discount off a connected device. The Biden-Harris Administration is providing further cost savings by working with internet providers to offer high-speed internet plans that are fully covered by the Affordable Connectivity Program — meaning most eligible households can now get high-speed internet without paying a dime.

 Down at my farm in the Ozarks a little boy that sleeps in the same bedroom as I did 65 years ago was really proud to show his parent’s landlord the new computer ad the high speed internet he’s got in my old room.

Joe Biden is responsible for millions of little Republicans getting high speed internet access for their homework.

That’s why I like Joe.

He thinks of all of us, not just some of us.

Charles Koch and ALEC have been working on this for nearly 40 years.

No doubt Koch industries is getting nervous now that TRUMPERS have screwed up the ALEC approach. Koch most likely sees his party losing several members in 2024.

This subverting of the GOP has been made possible through the electoral college ................ time to dismantle the electoral college. ALEC has been the principle designer of 61 voter suppression bills pushing them through state governments.

Millions upon millions of republicans love their Social Security Insurance and Medicare, voting rights, public education, clean air and water and will love cleaner electricity generation.
