Whenever the news media speaks of Russia, they throw up a map showing a country that stretches from Poland all the way to the Pacific Ocean.  But, that's not Russia.  THIS is the real Russia - the portion that is in darker red:



Even the light orange area in eastern Russia and the orange area stretching from southern-central Russia northwesterly to Europe is populated with less than 25 people per sq km.  Everything in Dark Green has zero people living there.  Everything in light green has next to no one living there.  So, you have dark-red Moscow, some areas around Ukraine and a couple of areas around Belarus that have high density populations. THAT IS RUSSIA.  That is all there is to it.  

The rest is up for grabs.  It is completely indefensible, and particularly indefensible by today's Russian Military.   There is essentially one train that runs from Western Russia to the East - the Trans-Siberian Railway (and, the Moscow-to Beijing Train that runs along mostly the same track).  Putin knows it too which is why he is desperately giving away free land for Russians who want to settle these Zero-Population areas.

All Ukraine, or the United States, needs to do to take away all of Eastern Russia from Putin is blow up the railroad in several strategic locations, and bomb a few air strips in Eastern Russia.  This requires much less effort than what the Israelis did to Lebanon when the Jews decimated Lebanese air-strips. 

Most of you have no idea just how weak and vulnerable Russia is to complete decimation and dissection.  Now, you know.
