so far in 2023, people with inherited wealth, with combined assets of over 50.3 trillion died.  wealth went to children who are addicted to street drugs. usa has changed!!! wealth going to homeless crazy people addicted to drugs. then  pasted on to make the drug dealers richer.  wealth that was never taxed. congress inherited laws in action. you pay taxes. druggies who inherit wealth get tax free money to buy drugs, then on to street drug dealers who pay no taxes. WOW!!! why is congress doing this? answer: congress hates you!!!! congress wants more money going to street drug dealers.

inherited real estate, stocks and business that are held for 10 years should be tax free. if sold before 10 years, tax the gross sales proceeds at 50%.

Lots of assumptions built into this. This idea that those who inherit wealth (and so are fairly affluent) will take their untaxed income and go buy street drugs.. ok, whatever. From being poor and homeless at times in my earlier life.. it was not the rich folks who bought the drugs most of the time.

I think he is forgetting a generation in his assessment.

Gen X is always being overlooked and forgotten.

Amongst other things.. again, lots of assumptions and missing context. When I was on the street.. those peddling/distributing the drugs did not come from affluent backgrounds. The drug users did not as far as I could tell. The ones that I got to know were from working class backgrounds in suburban america. No rich uncles/dads or they would have been hitting them up for money instead of slumming it up in Salt Lake City.

Makes me wonder - were there homeless people before 1850?

Even in 1850, I believe people had access to morphine, opium, and ether.  Especially ether.  But, addiction wasn't widespread. And, I believe the insane died of early in life.

True. We did not have the understanding of mental illness nor the compassion for it. However, there has always been a small class of beggars in the largest of cities.

I read once that "homelessness" actually was a thing post civil war.   I suppose it may have been a thing in Europe, but in America prior to the Civil War, you could choose to love anywhere.  Heck, the government was giving land away.  The only problem was that if you couldn't get along with your neighbors and/or the natives, you likely wouldn't live very long.
