What are the chances ZERO parents and children care?impartialobserver » 21 Sep 2023, 7:00 pm » wrote: ↑ Student performance and teacher skills are not 100% correlated. If the kids and the parents do not care.. a teacher is virtually powerless.
Well.. maybe I should care enough to put in the time and effort needed to be proficient. Chances of that... not as low as you think. I grew up poor and if the kids from the trailer park (exceedingly white.. may I add) did not score high on standardized tests.. parents mostly shrugged their shoulders and moved along. All that really mattered was that they were able to get jobs after high school.
13 schools and not ONE math proficient student.impartialobserver » 21 Sep 2023, 7:00 pm » wrote: ↑ Student performance and teacher skills are not 100% correlated. If the kids and the parents do not care.. a teacher is virtually powerless.
Your initial pinned the blame only on the teachers. Teachers are only ONE part of many. Parents too often get a free pass. Teachers are just a convenient target for their failings.golfboy » 21 Sep 2023, 7:11 pm » wrote: ↑ 13 schools and not ONE math proficient student.
It's the teachers, it's the parents, it's the culture.
13 schools, not ONE proficient but according to you it's not the teachers or the education system.impartialobserver » 21 Sep 2023, 7:10 pm » wrote: ↑ Well.. maybe I should care enough to put in the time and effort needed to be proficient. Again... THIRTEEN schools and not ONE student can do math.impartialobserver » 21 Sep 2023, 7:13 pm » wrote: ↑ Your initial pinned the blame only on the teachers. Teachers are only ONE part of many. Parents too often get a free pass. Teachers are just a convenient target for their failings.
True enough, and the case of the parents - students - teachers - and culture, it has made for a perfect storm of failure --- especially in our inner city Public Schools.impartialobserver » 21 Sep 2023, 7:00 pm » wrote: ↑ Student performance and teacher skills are not 100% correlated.
