Long ago.
It became almost inevitable that they set themselves up as babysitters.
Couple that with lazier (or busier, depending on your view) parents and here we are.

Neither side serves the young very well it would seem. At least there is ammo for such an argument.
"Couple that with lazier (or busier, depending on your view) parents and here we are."

That would hit the nail on the head. When the students are not pushed to succeed at school by the parents.. it is little wonder that they do not care about it.

I've always thought anyone getting a government paycheck shouldn't be in a union.
Because their union's direct adversary is me. And I don't have any **** say in the squabble.

I think both sides of that coin bear some of the blame. I did say "couple"...

we have a public sector union here in NV. They call me twice per year and try to get me to join. Zero chance of that. If I remember right.. there are union dues. However, my general objection is that I find it ok that us public sector employees get paid less than our private sector counterparts. I could spell out why but going to spare you for now.

Pension and medical coverage probably dwarfs private.

not by as much as you would think. Obviously depends on the occupations. My job title is economist. We make between 42K to 52k in NV. Our private sector counterparts in NV make on average 85K. In CA, they earn 96K per year.. Our pension/retirement is not as rich as it used to be. The previous Republican governor, Brian Sandoval, put the end to that... He brought the employer contribution down to 30%

I have proofread papers for soon-to-be-grads (for lack of a better term). Various folks.

A professor I know had me read for her a few times. Any port in a storm, I guess...
She was published, smart, had years of experience, a woman, etc. What's not to love?
Tenure was not her #1 goal at all. Even being properly considered would be nice according to her.

She was denied and could only attribute that slap to not holding the proper political views.
Maybe she wasn't in scathing agreement with the Trump haters or something.
Not being entirely sure what tenure entails, I didn't press her past her our commentary.
She was all in for the students. That much I can attest to.

Where she ended up was being resigned to the status quo and retiring untenured.
Tenure is another self-serving goal sidetracking people from their one purpose.
I'm sure you could easily fill in the gaps or correct my synopsis.
Please seat yourself.

So you're telling me for 13 schools, there isn't a SINGLE parent that wants their kid to learn?

It's a major conflict of interest against the very public they serve.

I agree, it's the parents that are to instill drive to succeed in school...most kids are just lazy and will take every out available...and yes, while some may be of lesser intelligence, it's the teachers who are responsible for noting to parents for help, encouragement and /or possibly adjusting curriculum...

         Exactly....
I don't give a damn about private sector Unions --- that's between labor and the business owners...

But Public Workers should not be able to organize ---because as you said, we as the Taxpayers who pay their salaries have no participation or say in the negotiations ---- especially when it comes to them demanding raises...

Another is the massive conflict of interest regarding some of the Public Unions .... For example the IRS has its own Union.

In fairness, I wouldn't teach *** kids for TWICE the money those teachers are getting (no offense to *** kids).
