I've never understood how a man and women who choose to get married, then years later wind up getting divorced.  If two people date for a year (or more) and then get married, can't y'all figure out that working on making the marriage better is a better thing to do with your life than simply quitting and getting a divorce?

Well...sometimes women fall short of their duties. They stop cleaning and cooking, giving blowjobs, etc...And we can't bitch slap them anymore. So, it's pointless to go on.

For the most part, I agree. However there are, like with everything, exceptions for things like abuse.

Last year my wife and I were at a wedding and were one of the three couple who had been married the longest. They asked the six of us to give one or two pieces of advice for a long and happy marriage.

Mine were simple; Ignore people who tell you marriage is a 50/50 partnership...it is a 100/100 partnership.  Give 100% to the relationship.  If you attention is divided, your marriage is not getting the attention it deserves.

Each of you need to make it your daily goal to make your spouse's day the easiest and happiest of days.

I agree wholeheartedly with this.

When it comes right down to it, you chose your spouse.  The person who will be at your side to deal with whatever life throws at the both of you.  Your parents will eventually get sick and die.  Your kids will eventually leave you.  Your friends enjoy your company as long as you are fun to be around, but they never really love you.

So, if you are lucky enough to find someone you love enough, and who loves you enough to marry, then you've been blessed with the greatest gift God has to offer you in this life.  Why would someone ever throw that away?

People are **** selfish.
A) The Golden Rule and B) Don't end the day angry.

Two of the simplest things on Earth.

Not so easy if you are a selfish prick...
Selfishness leads to resentfulness if divorce becomes the final option.
We have a very resentful society these days. Thank God the internet helps.
Please seat yourself.

You might have something there with "greener pastures".  I know folks like that.  Don't get it myself, because those pastures will surely turn out to be nothing but artificial turf.

So, not married, but 32 years with one man.  Well, that's married, ain't it?  Especially if the two of you were loyal and loving to each other.

facts are funny things

Both sides of the aisle may be surprised to learn statistics behind the family-values oriented Republican party. According to a 2014 report in the American Journal of Sociology, "red" states (states that tend to vote Republican), have higher divorce rates than "blue" states (states that tend to vote Democratic). The article attributes this difference to earlier marriage and family formation, lower education levels, and lower incomes that are often seen in red states.

I think the people who stay together is as much about respect as love. My wife and I agree that we are not husband and wife as much as just family at this point. You cannot divorce family.

There are  so called Red States that have very Blue Cities within.
It is the very Blue Cities [usually full of ***] within the Red States that are guilty of  enough society debasing issues to make it appear that the entire state is full of murderers, rapists, drug addicts, wife beaters, welfare recipients, lower education levels, etc.
Are you sure that same situation isn't going on with the source you  just deposited here...?

People change. People make choices. Mental illness occurs. Happily divorced after my autistic step daughter got molested at the boys and girls club. Gave her support and counseling and loads of attention. A few months later she was molested by another student in the school bathroom. Same modus operandi. Cornered and the perpetrator ate her out. We got her more counciling and attention. A few months later she accused her gay uncle of the same. Not sure how good autistic ****** tastes but I was having trouble believing her on this occasion. Told the wife to get her serious help or I would not be alone with her. She moved out because I doubted the veracity of her daughters claims. We divorced a short time later. Ex step daughter was molested another three times in the intervening years. I know I dodged a bullet.

Well, when a mommy and a daddy aren't happy with each other, but still love their little boy, they move into separate houses. This means their little boy gets TWO houses to live in. And mommy and daddy both love him even more, and bribe him with bicycles. So, look at it as a HAPPY thing. Image

That's the thing. When you could give a woman a beating without it being a federal **** offense, the OP made perfect sense. Things aren't working, tune her up and get 'em working, or it's your own damned fault.

But with bitches voting and wearing pants, cop-calling and joining support groups where betas encourage them to get uppity? Sometimes divorce is the only viable option.

I once hated a bitch so bad that I married her just to divorce her.
