I got divorced after 10 years of marriage. The marriage was abusive, and he was a chronic philanderer.
I got married again 2 years later. We are going to be married 22 years in December.
We have both changed a lot in the 24 years we have been together. Some for the better, and some for the worse.
At this point, I don't think I would get divorced. If he tried to hit me (which I can't imagine), I would probably kill him in his sleep.
He wouldn't cheat because he is an honest person, and probably too lazy at this point anyway. lol
We never used to argue, but now we bicker about everything. I guess that happens when you are with someone day in and day out for so many years.
We are also each other's biggest cheerleaders, and defenders. Best friends, and confidants.
We drive each other crazy, but we love each other.

Men are figuring out that marriage is a losing situation for them. Divorce proceedings are started by women 80%+. Women then get children and support for them, alimony in some cases, half of the assets, and the house. MGTOW is growing by leaps and bounds. Women are now bitching that men will not mentor them at work and have little to do with them except sex. Home gym equipment is taking off because men to not want to go to gyms that allow women. All male gyms are being started. Women have a hard time accepting men who want women to pay for 1/2 of a date for the few times that men will date them. "Where are all the good men?" is the new refrain of women who fell for the feminist trash.

Sounds like you are struggling with an image problem, post-surgery.  Maybe you should go in for a man-boobectomy next.

How does a woman wind up marrying a man who abuses her and is also a chronic cheater.  I am glad that you found your life-mate after that experience.  I just never could understand how women don't protect themselves against hitching themselves to an abusive, cheating man.

When you are raised in a household of abuse, it is your comfort zone.
It's what you are used to.
Healthy people don't marry abusers.

That makes sense.  I suppose I'm a lucky guy - had 2 loving parents, and while I got wacked sometimes for stuff I shouldn't have done, I never considered them abusive in the least.

Some times **** just doesn't work out.  My first lasted almost 12 years and produced two kids. We had the car payments and the mortgage and the careers and all that ****... but she was the spawn of Satan and I didn't find out until it was too late.

Shat happens.

Just curious, how long did it take you to suspect she wasn't a good person?

Honestly about 9 years in. The last two or three years is when she grew horns and started spitting fire.

It was about the time we both started making good money and could live better than your average Jones.

Man, that sucks.  There is no way to figure that **** out ahead of time.  Mental illness perhaps?

I dated a lot of women until I found the right one to marry.  My general rule-of-thumb was that I didn't really know a woman until I've dated her exclusively for 6 months.  Within that time, I could see how we generally got along, the degree of continued attractiveness, kindness, selfishness, awkwardness, intelligence/mental stimulation, lots of other things I couldn't even define. The bottom line is either we grew together more during that time, or not. I pretty much knew a woman's "flaws" within 6 months, and then I just needed to decide whether to continue or not.   But, I told myself that I would not marry any woman without being exclusive with her for 2 years. Pretty tough to hide who you really are for 6 months, let alone 2 years.

But, then there are stories like yours.  Sends a chill down my spine.

She just got caught up in the life. When I met her she was rooming with two other girls in an apartment on the shady side of town, and when we divorced she was in a 3500 sq ft home with an attached two car garage on the white side of town.

I always said, you can take the girl out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the girl.

She hated me right there at the end. Just water under the bridge now though. I saw it as a character builder. 😆

I am happy you had that experience.
It's terrible the way some people treat children.
My parents are both long dead, as well as my ex-husband.
I can only talk to them in spirit now.
However, I have not chosen to do that as of yet.
