Immediately thereafter, the New York Times blamed Republican “violent rhetoric” for the Democrat shooter’s actions. And as the nation took stock of Hodgkinson’s actions, many voices also called for “both sides” to stop with the harsh political rhetoric. The conceit is that “both sides” are responsible for Hodgkinson’s crime.

In the wake of the targeted shooting of Republican congressmen in Alexandria, Virginia, liberal commentator Sally Kohn took to Facebook to claim that, historically speaking, people on the Right have been responsible for more violence than their leftist counterparts.

“I do happen to believe that conservatives are habitually more hateful and violent than progressives, that those on the right end of the spectrum have historically been guilty of perpetuating more hatred and violence than those on the Left,” Kohn wrote.

“Slave owners were infinitely more violent than abolitionists. Segregationists extraordinarily more hateful than civil rights protesters,” she continued. “It is indisputable that throughout history, more evil has been done by those seeking to prop up and perpetuate misogyny, homophobia, transphobia and racism than by those seeking inclusion and equality.”

But Kohn is wrong. The truth is that throughout history — both in America and elsewhere — the Left has been indisputably spotted by ties to violence and hateful rhetoric.

While Kohn can only point unconvincingly towards slave owners and segregationists as proof of right-wing violence (it is a stretch in the extreme to try to apply the modern left-right paradigm to conflicts over slavery or segregation), American history is rich with examples of shockingly violent leftists and political radicals.

As The New York Times itself declared in an op-ed published in 2016, "The First Global Terrorists Were Anarchists in the 1890s." In 1901, a radical socialist anarchist named Leon Czolgosz assassinated President William McKinley.

"Leftist extremists were responsible for three fourths of the officially designated acts of terrorism in America in the 1980s."
In 1919, anarchists in America led by Italian anarchist Luigi Galleani perpetrated a series of bombings and attempted bombings. In April of that year, Galleani's followers sent 36 small mail bombs to a number of prominent politicians and businessmen.

In June, they detonated eight large bombs in eight U.S. cities simultaneously. The eight bombs were accompanied with fliers that read: "War, Class war, and you were the first to wage it under the cover of the powerful institutions you call order, in the darkness of your laws."

"There will have to be bloodshed; we will not dodge; there will have to be murder," it continued. "[W]e will kill, because it is necessary; there will have to be destruction; we will destroy to rid the world of your tyrannical institutions." In 1920, a blast at the J.P. Morgan headquarters at 23 Wall Street killed nearly 40 people and injured hundreds more. It is also believed to have been the work of the Galleanists.

Fast-forward a half century later, and radical leftists were still bringing violence to America's streets. The 1960s and 1970s saw the emergence of left-wing domestic terrorist groups such as the Weather Underground, the Black Panther Party, the Black Liberation Army, the Symbionese Liberation Army, and the Puerto Rican organization FALN (Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación Nacional).

The Weather Underground was responsible for a number of bombings and arson attacks across the country. These included the bombings of the Haymarket police memorial in Chicago on October 6,1969, the U.S. Capitol on March 1, 1971, the Pentagon on May 19, 1972, and a Department of State building on January 29, 1975.

Also in 1973, two members of the Symbionese Liberation Army murdered Oakland school superintendent Marcus Foster. In 1974, the group infamously kidnapped publishing heiress Patty Hearst. Between its creation in 1974 and 1983, FALN carried out more than 120 bombings in the United States.

But left-wing terrorism in America didn't end in the 1970s. The 1980s saw the establishment of the May 19th Communist Organization (M19CO) and the United Freedom Front. The M19C0 was responsible for a string of bombings, at least one bank robbery, and a break-in to release Assata Shakur from jail.

A 2001 study done on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Safeguards and Security found that "Leftist extremists were responsible for three-fourths of the officially designated acts of terrorism in America in the 1980s."

Not only is the history of the American left often speckled with violence, but that violent past is often actively celebrated. Only this month, Oscar López Rivera, one of the leaders of FALN, was the guest of honor at the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City.

Assata Shakur is considered some kind of patron saint among social justice activists, frequently referenced by Black Lives Matter founder Alicia Garza, and leftists across the country proudly wear the face of a mass killer — Che Guevara — on their T-shirts.

It’s no surprise, then, that the American Left’s violent tendencies continue to this day. In 2012, two Occupy Wall Street activists, Morgan Gliedman and Aaron Greene, were arrested after police found explosives in their apartment.

Violent Antifa agitators are increasingly prone to attacking conservatives and moderates at political rallies and on college campuses across the country.

And of course this is just in America. Kohn's claims are even more absurd when one considers world history, which illustrates clearly that violence has been an inherent and fundamental part of the Left since its very beginnings.

The French Revolution, the first identifiable expression of modern Leftism, saw over 40,000 people murdered during the Reign of Terror. The Bolshevik leaders of the Russian revolution praised terror and violence. "The 'fundamental feature' of the concept of dictatorship of the proletariat is revolutionary violence," wrote Lenin. Trotsky authored an entire book titled "Defense of Terrorism."

From the 1920s through the 1980s, communists and socialists in the Soviet Union, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Central and South America wrought a level of death and destruction nearly unprecedented in human history, murdering nearly 100 million human beings — all in the name of social justice.

When it comes to the Russian-Trump collusion "smoke" we keep hearing about, one thing has become crystal clear: there isn't any smoke, there isn't any fire, and this nothingburger isn't even worth lighting a match for.

This "scandal" has been the major topic of press attention since Election Day last year.

Yet, no one has provided one scintilla of evidence that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians in hacking or otherwise interfering in the U.S. election.

No evidence. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Consider that we've had Obama's own Director of National Intelligence James Clapper tell "Meet the Press" there is "no evidence" of collusion.

With two congressional inquiries and an FBI probe underway over the last 6 months — not to mention dozens of voracious media organizations like The New York Times and Washington Post frequently reporting leaks of convenience — nobody has unearthed any evidence that Russians at any level worked with the Trump campaign.

When President Trump responds to this madness, he's declared "crazy," "paranoid," and even "obsessed."

With so many false reports and innuendo being placed in the public sphere, let's review key points the fair-minded person should consider:

1. To repeat, no one has provided any evidence the Trump campaign worked with the Russians to defeat Hillary Clinton.

The closest they come is that the Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak showed up at the Republican convention last year in Cleveland and rubbed shoulders with party big-wigs.

The media reports conveniently forget to mention the Obama State Dept. organized the effort to have diplomats like Kislyak attend the convention.

2. There is no question the Russians tried to interfere in the U.S. election.

3. This interference took place during Obama's watch.

Obama did little to stop it. Putin took these actions with impunity because he viewed the Obama administration as weak. Putin saw this weakness first hand when he invaded Crimea and Obama slapped him on the wrist.

It was only after Trump was elected did the Obama administration raise the temperature against the Russians over the interference.

4. The Obama administration took the unusual step of "unmasking" the identities of Americans, including people close to Trump, discovered in classified NSA and intelligence intercepts.

Still, this highly questionable action found no evidence of collusion.

5. There is no evidence the Russian interference changed the election outcome or helped Trump.

In fact, Russia's involvement may have actually hurt Trump.

Any review of the election results shows Hillary not only won the popular vote, she actually outperformed Obama's 2012 result in many states, including Blue States like California (she won by over 4 million votes, Obama beat Romney by just 2 million) and Red States like Texas (Hillary cut Obama's loss of 16 points almost in half to 9).

6. Trump won the election fairly and squarely.

He studied the rules, grasped the critical importance of the Electoral College and out-campaigned Hillary in key states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Remember, Hillary did not even campaign in Wisconsin during the general election.

7. Trump faced a brutal campaign onslaught.

Liberal media savaged him with billions of free, earned media for Hillary's campaign.

Additionally, Hillary and her allies raised $1.2 billion and outspent Trump by over $600 million. (Trump only raised $258 million through Joint Fundraising from the RNC, less than half of what the DNC raised for Hillary.)

8. Trump's election last November was greeted by immediate protests denying his legitimacy, and some Democrats even called for his impeachment before he took the oath of office.

9. A federal investigation that began simply as a "counter-intelligence" probe has morphed into a sprawling inquiry of Trump's advisers.

Unable to find evidence of collusion, this probe is reportedly looking at the advisers' activities completely unrelated to the "collusion" claim and largely for activities after the election.

For example, Gen. Michael Flynn is said to have received payments from Turkey that he did not disclose.

And Trump's son-in-law had several business contacts with Russians after the election, which by itself is not improper. The FBI is said to be looking at Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort for his dealings in the Ukraine well before Trump ran for office.

So what is this all about?

10. There has never been any evidence that President Trump or the White House sought to obstruct justice or close down any Congressional or federal investigation.

By virtue of the investigations continuing, the president is actually cooperating with these probes.

11. Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, which was his prerogative.

Comey never complained during his tenure that Trump was seeking to obstruct justice. After being fired, Comey declined to tell Congress Trump had obstructed justice.

12. The FBI Director did admit that rather than bring his concerns to the attention of the Attorney General or Congress, he wrote memos-to-file of his private conversations with the president.

Comey admitted to Congress he leaked at least one of these memos to The New York Times, a serious breach of presidential executive privilege and ethics.

These are just some of the matters that can help guide the perplexed about the so-called Russian-Trump collusion story.

Meanwhile, the president has been the target of leaks by government insiders of his highly-classified conversations with world leaders.

The Justice Dept. appears to be taking a lackadaisical approach to finding the perpetrators.

Then there's Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller's probe which grows by the day, as new heavyweight prosecutors join his team.

In fact, just this week Mueller added Elizabeth Prelogar, a Harvard law grad who clerked for Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan and is fluent in Russian.

The president is right to be worried about an investigation that was created with no evidence of a crime. Apparently finding no evidence, it is careening into other areas as it seeks to justify its own existence.

Donald Trump Jr. provided 2 wildly different statements to describe his meeting with a Russian lawyer.

Donald Trump Jr. provided two significantly different statements over the weekend to address a Trump Tower meeting he took with a Russian lawyer last June.

His most recent statement acknowledged that he was promised information on soon-to-be Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

His original statement left out this key point.

His first statement was issued Saturday, as The New York Times revealed the existence of the meeting among Trump Jr., then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort, Jared Kushner, now a senior White House adviser and Trump's son-in-law, and the Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.

The initial story highlighted the meeting's existence, to which Trump Jr. responded that it "was a short introductory meeting" that focused on "a program about the adoption of Russian children that was active and popular with American families years ago and was since ended by the Russian government."

But on Sunday, the Times followed up on its original story with the detail that Trump Jr. was promised damaging information about Clinton before agreeing to meet with Veselnitskaya, a Kremlin-connected lawyer.

Three advisers to the White House were were briefed on the meeting, in addition to two others with knowledge of it, told the Times of the promise following the Saturday story confirming the meeting's existence.

Although it was unclear whether Veselnitskaya produced any damaging information on Clinton, the sources who spoke with the Times said she was expected to provide such knowledge.

The new details led to Trump Jr.'s second statement.

In it, he confirmed that the meeting was taken on the premise that Veselnitskaya had information related to Clinton — and that the adoption issue was not what he believed was the purpose of the meeting.

Junior sent Reince Priebus out on FOX News today to lie through his teeth by saying that the meeting was about Russian adoption.

Trump's legal team blames Democrats for setting up the meeting between his campaign and a Russian lawyer.

President Donald Trump's outside legal team has changed their defense against a New York Times report which said his son and top members of his campaign team met with a Russian lawyer with strong ties to the Kremlin in June 2016.

The meeting was between Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian lawyer, and Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort, who served as Trump's campaign manager at the time.

Veselnitskaya waged a harsh campaign against the 2012 Magnitsky Act, which blacklisted Russians suspected of human-rights abuses. Russian President Vladimir Putin has called the law "outrageous" and retaliated by blocking Americans from adopting Russian children.

The Trump campaign's meeting with Veselnitskaya was only recently disclosed to government officials, when Kushner filed a revised security clearance form after The Times reported in April that he had failed to disclose his contacts with Russian officials before joining the Trump administration.

Trump Jr. initially said the meeting had been to discuss the adoption program.

"It was a short introductory meeting.

I asked Jared and Paul to stop by," Trump Jr. said in a statement to The Times.

"We primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children that was active and popular with American families years ago and was since ended by the Russian government, but it was not a campaign issue at the time and there was no follow up."

The Times reported late Sunday afternoon, however, that Trump Jr. was promised damaging information about then-candidate Hillary Clinton when he agreed to meet with Veselnitskaya.

In a statement released hours after The Times published its first story on Saturday, Trump's legal team painted the meeting as part of a Democratic effort to use Russian operatives to undermine the Trump campaign.

"We have learned from both our own investigation and public reports that the participants in the meeting misrepresented who they were and who they worked for," Mark Corallo, a spokesperson for Trump's team, said in the statement.

"Specifically, we have learned that the person who sought the meeting is associated with Fusion GPS, a firm which according to public reports, was retained by Democratic operatives to develop opposition research on the president and which commissioned the phony Steele dossier," he continued.

After the Times published its second story on Sunday, Corallo said only that “the president was not aware of and did not attend the meeting.”

The Steele dossier is an unverified report compiled by former MI6 agent Christopher Steele which contains damning and at times salacious allegations about Trump and his ties to the Kremlin.

Fusion GPS was the firm that retained Steele.

There is no evidence that Veselnitskaya is connected to Fusion GPS, but there have been unconfirmed reports in conservative media circles that Fusion's CEO, Glenn Simpson, was hired by Veselnitskaya's client, Denis Katsyv, as part of a team tasked with lobbying government officials to repeal the Magnitsky Act.

Katsyv is the son of senior Russian government official Pyotr Katsyv and owner of the Cyprus-incorporated real-estate company Prevezon, which was being investigated by the Department of Justice at the time of the meeting over money laundering charges.

The Prevezon case, which was settled for approximately $6 million in May, garnered high-profile attention given its ties to the $230 million Russian tax-fraud scheme uncovered by Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, whose suspicious death aroused international media attention in November 2009.

Magnitsky uncovered the scheme, which became one of the biggest corruption scandals of Putin's presidency, in 2008 on behalf of the investment advisory firm Hermitage Capital.

Magnitsky was later thrown in jail and died in custody, and an independent human-rights commission found he had been illegally arrested and beaten.

The Kremlin maintains that Magnitsky died of a heart attack.

The founder of Hermitage, William Browder, sought justice for Magnitsky in the US and Europe after Magnitsky died.

In 2012, Congress passed the Magnitsky Act.

Browder said in an interview on Saturday that fighting against the Magnitsky Act was Veselnitskaya's "main project last year.

And "there was no obvious reason," Browder said, for Veselnitskaya and her team to engage in this lobbying "as part of their defense for Prevezon."

"It wouldn't have helped the company address the money laundering allegations mounted by the US Department of Justice," Browder said.

"The only reason for them to do this would have been at the behest of the Russian government."

While in prison, Magnitsky developed gall stones, pancreatitis and calculous cholecystitis and was refused medical treatment for months.

Finally, after almost a year of imprisonment and on the verge of death, Magnitsky was transferred to a Moscow hospital.

There he was greeted not by a doctor but by a number of Russian OMON who bludgeoned him to death.

In June 2012, the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs reported to the House a bill called the Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act of 2012 (H.R. 4405).

The main intention of the law was to punish Russian officials who were thought to be responsible for the death of Sergei Magnitsky by prohibiting their entrance to the United States and their use of its banking system.

The legislation was taken up by a Senate panel the next week, sponsored by Senator Ben Cardin, and cited in a broader review of the mounting tensions in the international relationship.

In November 2012, provisions of the Magnitsky bill were attached to a House bill (H.R. 6156) normalizing trade with Russia (i.e. repealing the Jackson–Vanik amendment) and Moldova.

On December 6, 2012, the U.S. Senate passed the House version of the law.

The law was signed by President Barack Obama on December 14, 2012

Bottom line is that Donald Jr. was willing to meet with someone from one of our foreign adversaries (Russia) with ties to the Kremlin to get dirt on Hillary.
