White House unveils ‘Made in America’ week, though many Trump products are made overseas.

President Trump, whose company outsources the manufacturing of many of its products to overseas factories, is unveiling “Made in America” week at the White House to promote products made in the United States.

For years, the Trump Organization has outsourced much of its product manufacturing, relying on a global network of factories in a dozen countries — including Bangladesh, China and Mexico — to make its clothing, home decor pieces and other items.

Similarly, the clothing line of Ivanka Trump, the president's older daughter and a senior White House adviser, relies exclusively on foreign factories employing low-wage workers in countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia and China, according to a recent Washington Post investigation.

Outgoing ethics chief urges Trump to stop visiting his properties.

The outgoing head of the Office for Government Ethics has a message for President Trump: Don't visit your own properties while you're in office.

Walter Shaub, who announced that he's leaving the federal government earlier this month, told CNNMoney on Monday that it's something he's relayed to the Trump team before.

" some very specific recommendations, like stop going to your properties or announce that White House officials won't go to those properties," Shaub said.

Those visits amount to free promotion, Shaub said.

"You've got the president traveling there every single weekend, and whether he intends to or not, he's giving free advertising to them," he said.

This past weekend, Trump visited Trump National, his private golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, to attend the U.S. Women's Open.

He's now spent 40 days of his presidency at a Trump golf property.

Of the 26 weekends he's been in office, Trump has spent 21 weekends at a property that bears his name.

The White House, in a statement, denied that Shaub had brought his concerns to them directly.

"Mr. Shaub has been outspoken by leaking, tweeting, and writing letters to Democrat members of Congress, but since the president was sworn into office, he never once raised travel, passive holdings or other ethics issues involving the president in a single discussion with the White House counsel or deputy counsel overseeing ethics and compliance," the White House said.

Shaub's resignation is effective on Wednesday.

He's moving to the Campaign Legal Center, a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy group for tougher campaign finance laws.

"I resigned because I've achieved all I can in this job in the current circumstances," Shaub told CNNMoney.

Shaub has clashed repeatedly with the Trump White House.

In January, he lambasted the president's decision to not sell his business holdings.

In March, he criticized the White House's decision not to punish Kellyanne Conway after she plugged Ivanka Trump's products in a TV interview.

And in May, Shaub tussled with the White House over the release of ethics waivers that were granted to staffers.

Trump's unwillingness to part with his business empire remains a major point of contention for Shaub.

"You've seen foreign governments schedule events at his hotel and we don't know if they would be doing that otherwise," Shaub said.

"There have been fundraisers there, charity events, politicians holding events at his properties.

These are the kinds of things that should worry us."

It also makes it difficult to parse the president's motivations, he said.

"You see him holding financial interests -- that leaves us unable to know whether decisions are motivated by policy aims or by personal financial interests," Shaub said.

Shaub said the executive branch under Trump has retreated from established norms on government ethics, he said.

"We are in a state of crisis right now," Shaub said.

"I'm very concerned about the risk to the integrity of government."

Chris Christie: Getting Russian Opposition Research Is 'Probably Against the Law'

Republican Gov. Chris Christie on Monday addressed Donald Trump Jr.'s 2016 meeting with a Russian attorney, saying it's "probably against the law" to get opposition research for his father's presidential campaign from a foreign country.

But Christie, a friend and adviser to President Donald Trump, also said that it's too early be "jumping to conclusions" and that there's no evidence the campaign obtained such research.

"I think, quite frankly, it's probably against the law in addition to being inappropriate," Christie said. "I think the thing that bothers me the most is that we seem to have a frenzy of people jumping to conclusions."

A Ukrainian-American operative who was consulting for the Democratic National Committee met with top officials in the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington in an effort to expose ties between Trump, top campaign aide Paul Manafort and Russia, according to people with direct knowledge of the situation.

The Ukrainian efforts had an impact in the race, helping to force Manafort’s resignation and advancing the narrative that Trump’s campaign was deeply connected to Ukraine’s foe to the east, Russia.

But they were far less concerted or centrally directed than Russia’s alleged hacking and dissemination of Democratic emails.

Russia’s effort was personally directed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, involved the country’s military and foreign intelligence services, according to U.S. intelligence officials.

They reportedly briefed Trump last week on the possibility that Russian operatives might have compromising information on the president-elect.

And at a Senate hearing last week on the hacking, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said “I don't think we've ever encountered a more aggressive or direct campaign to interfere in our election process than we've seen in this case.”

There’s little evidence of such a top-down effort by Ukraine.

Longtime observers suggest that the rampant corruption, factionalism and economic struggles plaguing the country — not to mention its ongoing strife with Russia — would render it unable to pull off an ambitious covert interference campaign in another country’s election.

And President Petro Poroshenko’s administration, along with the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, insists that Ukraine stayed neutral in the race.

Former DNC contractor denies working with Ukrainian officials on anti-Trump research.

The former Democratic National Committee contractor at the center of allegations that Democrats worked with Ukrainian officials to dig up dirt on then-presidential candidate Donald Trump told CNN Friday that DNC officials never asked her to "go to the Ukrainian Embassy to collect information."

Alexandra Chalupa, a Ukrainian-American activist and Democratic consultant for over a decade, is the latest in a line of Democrats, including multiple DNC officials and former Clinton campaign officials, to deny the claim.

It's a talking point the White House and other pro-Trump Republicans are using to deflect from Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with Natalia Veselnitskaya, a lawyer described to him in emails as a "Russian government lawyer."

"During the 2016 US election, I was a part time consultant for the DNC running an ethnic engagement program," Chalupa said in a lengthy statement to CNN.

"I was not an opposition researcher for the DNC, and the DNC never asked me to go to the Ukrainian Embassy to collect information."

Chalupa said Friday that because of her Ukrainian-American heritage she was aware of Paul Manafort's political consulting work for Victor Yanukovych, a former Ukrainian President with close ties to Moscow.

Manafort, a longtime Republican operative, was hired by Trump in March 2016.

"When it was announced that the Trump campaign hired Manafort, many Ukrainian-Americans were alarmed and concerned it was an early signal that Putin was trying to influence the US election," Chalupa said.

"At that time, I flagged for the DNC the significance of his hire based on information in the public domain."

Chalupa, who maintained other clients while working for the DNC, does say she had a "couple" meetings with "representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy," but that those meetings had to do with an "Immigrant Heritage Month women's networking event" she helped organize in June with Melanne Verveer, a Ukrainian-American and former US Ambassador for Global Women's Issues at the State Department under Hillary Clinton.

The White House has seized on Chalupa's work and a Politico story in January that said Ukrainian government officials worked with at least one staffer at the DNC during the 2016 campaign to help Hillary Clinton and undermine Trump.

The story centers on Chalupa, who Politico reported has a network of people in Kiev and Washington -- including Ukrainian government officials -- who would pass her information that she would then float as potential research to DNC staffers.

Chalupa disagreed with the casting of the Politico story, posting on Facebook in January that it was "nonsense."

But the White House has jumped on the story, with multiple officials claiming it proves collusion.

In the first paragraph it talks about 'Hillary Clinton's' real collusion with Ukraine.

Then it cites the part of a Politico article that says that it was a Ukrainian-American operative who was consulting for the Democratic National Committee who met with people at the Ukrainian Embassy.

And the reason the story went nowhere at the time is that it doesn't say anything about anyone from the Clinton campaign meeting with any foreign government to get dirt on Trump.
