Before he was president, Donald Trump told radio host Howard Stern that he turned away in disgust as an elderly man nearly bled to death in front of him.

The future president recounted the story July 16, 2008, during one of his 35 appearances on Stern’s show, which have all recently been posted online, reported The Daily Beast.

Trump said the story took place at his Mar-A-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, during a Red Cross charity ball, when a man of about 80 who “a lot of people didn’t like” was badly injured in a fall.

“So what happens is, this guy falls off right on his face, hits his head and I thought he died,” Trump said.

“And you know what I did? I said, ‘Oh my god, that’s disgusting, and I turned away.

I couldn’t, you know — he was right in front of me. I turned away, I didn’t want to touch him.”

“He’s bleeding all over the place, I felt terrible, you know,” Trump continued.

“Beautiful marble floor, it didn’t look so good. It changed color, it became very red, and you have this poor guy, 80 years old, laying on the floor, conscious, and all of the rich people are turning away, ‘Oh my god, this is terrible, this is disgusting,’ and, you know, they’re turning away, nobody wants to help the guy, and his wife is screaming, she sitting right next to him and she’s screaming.”

He told Stern that some U.S. Marines, whom he said had been given the worst table in the ballroom despite being guests of honor, rushed to the man’s aide as he and the wealthy donors in attendance watched in horror.

“So from the back of the room they come running forward, they grabbed him, they put the blood all over the place, it’s all over their uniforms, they’re taking it, they swipe — they ran him out, they created a stretcher — they call it a human stretcher, their arms out, like five guys on each side,” Trump said.

“They ran him out, I never saw it, they ran him out. I was saying, ‘Get that blood cleaned up, it’s disgusting.'”

Trump eventually learned the man had survived, but he admitted that he neglected to check on him.

“I forgot to call, the next day I forgot to call to say, is he OK,” Trump said.

“He was OK, it’s just not my thing. I just don’t like looking at blood.”

He told Stern he respected nurses and others in the medical field, but he was disgusted by their work.

“I’m not good for medical,” he said.

“In other words, if you, like, cut your finger and there’s blood pouring out, I’m gone.”

EPA Spent $25K On A Secure Phone Booth For Scott Pruitt To Prevent Eavesdropping

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) spent $25,000 on a soundproof phone booth in Administrator Scott Pruitt’s office preventing outsiders from eavesdropping on the agency chief’s communications, according to a Tuesday report from The Washington Post.

EPA officials signed a $24,570 contract earlier this summer with sound canceling company Acoustical Solutions for a “privacy booth for the administrator.”

The agency sought a customized version that Pruitt can use to communicate without fear of being monitored, the report notes.

Homeland Security chief Elaine Duke just made Trump's Puerto Rico problem worse.

After spending the weekend tweeting about the NFL and why its owners should force players to stand during the National Anthem, President Donald Trump has spent this week playing catchup on the still-unfolding humanitarian crisis in the wake of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

On Thursday afternoon, acting Homeland Security head Elaine Duke made that task even more complicated.

Duke was asked by reporters at the White House whether she was satisfied with the federal government's response to Hurricane Maria and the devastation it has wrought.

Here's her answer (bolding is mine):

"I am very satisfied. I know it's a hard storm to recover from but the amount of progress that's been made, and I really would appreciate any support that we get.

I know it is really a good news story in terms of our ability to reach people and the limited number of deaths that have taken place in such a devastating hurricane."

VA chief took in Wimbledon, river cruise on European work trip; wife’s expenses covered by taxpayers.

Nearly three days into a trip to Europe this past July, Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin had attended a Wimbledon championship tennis match, toured Westminster Abbey and taken a cruise on the Thames.

The 10-day trip was not entirely a vacation.

Shulkin was in Europe for meetings with Danish and British officials about veterans’ health issues, so taxpayers picked up part of the tab.

Yet he and his wife spent about half their time sightseeing, including shopping and touring historic sites, according to an itinerary obtained by The Washington Post and confirmed by a U.S. official familiar with their activities.

The federal government paid for the flights for Shulkin and his wife, Merle Bari, and provided a per-diem reimbursement for their meals and other expenses, VA said Friday.

An agency spokesman did not respond to questions about why Bari qualified for the reimbursements and taxpayer-funded airfare, other than to say she was traveling on “approved invitational orders” and had “temporary duty” travel expenses.

The agency also did not respond to questions about the cost of the flights and the total reimbursement.

Shulkin’s trip came less than two weeks after he signed a memo instructing top VA staffers to determine whether “employee travel in their organization is essential.”

“I expect this will result in decreased employee travel and generate savings within the Department of Veterans Affairs,” Shulkin wrote.
