An FBI agent joked about how a witness who lied in the Hillary Clinton email investigation would never be charged, according to a Justice Department inspector general report released Thursday.

The witness had obviously lied to the FBI about handling sensitive information, the agent told one of his colleagues, but it didn’t matter, because regardless of what the Clinton associate said, the FBI wasn’t going to do “sh-t” about it.

Did Putin give Trump the idea to stop “war games” with South Korea?

Donald Trump left this week’s summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un having granted a huge last-minute concession: promising to stop what he called “war games” with South Korea.

The move reportedly blindsided both Seoul and US military officials.

Trump may have got that idea from an unusual source, the Wall Street Journal reports (paywall):

Trump had an idea about how to counter the nuclear threat posed by North Korea, which he got after speaking to Russian President Vladimir Putin: If the U.S. stopped joint military exercises with the South Koreans, it could help moderate Kim Jong Un’s behavior.

That discussion between Putin and Trump reportedly happened in summer 2017.

The pair have only met twice themselves, on the sidelines of diplomatic gatherings in Germany in July 2017 and in Vietnam that November.

Russia has encouraged de-escalation talks between the US and North Korea.

Today, the Kremlin publicly congratulated itself for supporting the Trump-Kim meeting in Singapore, Reuters reported.

“Putin was right,” a spokesman said. “The only possible path is one of direct dialogue.”

Using the military exercises as a massive negotiating chip in exchange for the North denuclearizing is a pretty orthodox policy proposal, but it stunned almost everybody that Trump seemed to be giving this away for free after his meeting.

This Father's Day, former first lady Laura Bush is speaking out about the on-going separation of immigrant parents from their children at the borders of the United States.

In an op-ed in the Washington Post, Bush shares her perspective not only as a former first lady but also a citizen of a border state.

"I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart," she writes, citing the nearly 2,000 children, some of whom are younger than 4 years old, who have been sent to mass detention centers or foster care.

"Our government should not be in the business of warehousing children in converted box stores or making plans to place them in tent cities in the desert outside of El Paso.

These images are eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history," she continues.

"People on all sides agree that our immigration system isn’t working, but the injustice of zero tolerance is not the answer"

Bush has always been an advocate for children. During her time as first lady, she focused on childhood education, early childhood development, and literacy.

While the Bushes have typically stayed out of the political spotlight following George W. Bush's presidency, in recent months they've become increasingly vocal in their views of President Trump and his policies.

For example, last October, former president George W. Bush gave a pointed speech denouncing bigotry and white supremacy that was widely recognized as a condemnation of the current administration, even though it did not mention Trump by name.

And in May of 2018, he gave another address about the "dangers of isolation," a direct affront to Trump's America First rhetoric.

I don't think enough has been said about this, it's massive. To spell it out

1. Nunes says "Whistleblowers" came to "us" i.e House Intelligence Committee in "Late September 2016", about additional emails on Anthony Weiner's laptop. "Good FBI Agents" were the whistleblowers, clearly from the NY Field Office.

2. Think about that for a second. Nunes, the GOP and Trump campaign knew about Weiner's laptop a month before Comey.

3. He says "they" couldn't use it because it was "classified". This is clearly ****.

4. Why did it take a month for the NY Field Office agents to go to Comey ?

5. Why did the NY Field Office agents feel the need to go to Nunes BEFORE going to Comey ?

6. Why did they leave a month go by before going to Comey ?

7. Oh, and the Ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, said Nunes never told him about this.

8. Is Nunes, by volunteering this to Ingraham (who has a whoa WTF moment), getting out in front of the story ? It didn't seem logical to include that in the discussion.

9. Nunes is saying the FBI Agents came to him. What if a combo of Guiliani and Kallstrom gave it to him, as they are the ones well connected to the NY FBI Field Office ?

10. The Big Picture is that the Trump Campaign got the NY Field Office agents to hold off on going to Comey, until less than two weeks before the Election.

Rudy Giuliani told Fox News’s Martha MacCallum on Oct. 26, 2016 that Donald Trump had “a surprise or two that you’re going to hear about in the next two days.”

“I’m talking about some pretty big surprise,” he said.

Two days later, FBI Director James Comey revealed to Congress that he had reopened the Hillary Cinton email investigation.

On November 4th, 2016 Rudy Giuliani said that he knew the FBI planned to review more emails tied to Hillary Clinton before a public announcement about the investigation last week, confirming that the agency leaked information to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
