He no longer has that protection.
He thinks that announcing that he is running again will shield him.

As for the Stormy Daniels issue, The Former Guy's lawyer, Michael Cohen skirted campaign contribution rules by arranging hush-money payments to Daniels and a similar payment to Playboy model Karen McDougal at the direction of Individual A (DJT).
He went to jail for it.
The Former Guy skated as usual.
Doesn't matter what any of these investigations might find.
