Getting a photo ID is one of the easiest things anybody could ever do.It costs money, and it's not easy for the elderly or disabled to go to the DMV.As someone who recently had to transfer my New York state driver's license to the state of Pennsylvania, I can attest to that firsthand.I had to get a certified copy of my Birth Certificate, which cost $15.00.For married women, the name on their Birth Certificate will not match their married name, so they need a marriage certificate as well. The fee for that in NY is $30. Internet and telephone orders also require a major credit card (which not everyone has). And the fee for internet and phone orders is $45.Obviously these people don't drive, or they would have a driver's license. So they must apply for a state issued non-driver's ID.In New York a short-term ID card is valid for four to five years and costs $9 to $10. A long-term ID card is valid for eight to nine years and costs $13 to $14.So for a woman in NY, it could cost her up to $74 to obtain a state issued photo ID.Can you say poll tax?

If they (of any age) can't go get themself an ID, tough! Problem is a lot of IDs are phony. I think they should have a biometric ID system that works fingerprints, eye retina scans and birth certificates. I'm not sure how they can completely secure it 100% that someone really is a citizen, but they could/should do a lot more than they're doing.

And the Disinformation Campaign goes on. Putting aside the massive voter fraud committed by Democrats in every election, the overwhelming majority of Americans want voter-ID laws to prevent voter fraud. And when passed, neither party could engage in it.The silly 20-million-Americans-don't-have-ID's claim is simply absurd and false. How do these people drive or cash a check or collect welfare or any of the things that 99% of Americans do?Not to mention, it it's barely any difficulty at all to get an ID if someone lacks one.I don't want stupid, uninformed people to vote. Do you? Duuh. But Weyrich in no way wants to disenfranchise anyone. He's an honorable man.For once Clem, I agree with you. If we are ever to stop the invasion of illegal aliens who are ruining the country, we've got to get a handle on the ID thing, and it's really not that big a deal. The govt just needs to get to work on it. Like Woody Allen said "90% of life is just showing up."

How can anyone become elderly and never have had an ID. I swear some of the damned off the wall stuff y'all throw up as a defense. It's not always that they never have had one. Many older people give up their licenses when they no longer drive.Do you live in the real world?Although some people actually never did have one, and couldn't get one.Donna Jean Suggs was born at home, delivered by a midwife in 1949. She grew up, got a Social Security card and found work as a home health aide. Try as she might, though, she couldn't get a birth certificate. That meant she couldn't get a driver's license or register to vote."I fought with them and fought with them," she said of the local and state officials. "I prayed and prayed." In time, said Suggs, 62, who lives in Sumter, S.C., "I gave up on things" — like voting.http://www.aarp.org/...-americans.htmlWhat about elderly people who have been voting for decades before these new laws?Their signature is in the books at their polling place.Should they now be denied the right to vote, because they don't have a government issued photo ID?When a 96-year-old Tennessee woman went to apply for an ID, she was denied because she didn’t have her marriage license. Now another senior citizen in Tennessee, 91-year-old Virginia Lasater, may not be able to vote because she wasn’t able to stand in a long line at a DMV to get the necessary ID. Lasater says that she has voted and worked in campaigns for 70 years, but when she tried to get a photo ID recently, she discovered the center was packed and there were no chairs available. A clerk told Lasater and her son there was nothing they could do. http://thinkprogress...line-for-hours/She voted for 70 years.....but no more, because she's unable to stand in line at the DMV.It's so nice that you live in a world where everyone is rich and no one is old or disabled. So, we are gonna take a very few isolated instances and just let anyone vote. Screw that.I stand by my statement that it ain't rocket science to get an ID and it does not cost big money.A few posts back, I proved that in New York state it could cost someone up to $74 to get a state issued photo ID.Now I know to a moneybags like you that's chump change. But to many people that is a lot of money. What we are actually doing is taking the non-existent problem of voter fraud and disenfranchising possibly millions of people from voting.Bush's Justice Dep't tried for 5 years to prove that in person voter fraud (voter impersonation) was rampant, and they came up empty.Last year the Republican National Lawyers Association viewed data going back ten years to prove rampant voter fraud, and didn't do much better. Those are Republicans, not Libs. They haven't been able to prove that a bunch of dead people are voting, try as they might, but that doesn't stop them from saying it anyway. This is about voter supression and voter disenfranchisement. Plain and simple.Lol, oh, it is a tribute. A tribute that he got your goat and still has it.Can you name this sok who was created 'in tribute' to Clem, because I haven't seen it.

Newt Gingrich has just released a nearly 30 minute long TV ad that`s all about rising gas prices and what president Newt Gingrich will do to bring them down. According to Newt Gingrich and his 30-minute infomercial, the Obama administration is, quote, "anti-oil."The truth?Newt Gingrich is a big fat liar.More Democrat Talking Point Lie.The increase in domestic production is in spite of Obama's stupid restrictive energy policies. As for domestic energy, Mr. Obama rightly points to the rising share of U.S. oil consumption now produced at home. But this trend began in the late Bush Administration, which opened up large new areas on and offshore for oil and gas drilling that are now coming on stream. Mr. Obama sneered at expanded drilling as a candidate in 2008 and for most of his term has done little to expand it.In early 2010, he proposed to open some new areas to drilling but shut that down after the Gulf oil spill. According to the Greater New Orleans Gulf Permits Index for January 31, over the previous three months the feds issued an average of three deep-water drilling permits a month compared to the historical average of seven. Over the same three months, the feds approved an average of 4.7 shallow-water permits a month, compared to the historical average of 14.7.Approval of an offshore drilling plan now takes 92 days, 31 more than the historical average. And so far in 2012, an average of 23% of all drilling plans have been approved, compared to the average of 73.4%.Oh, and don't forget the Keystone XL pipeline, which would have increased the delivery of oil from Canada and North Dakota's Bakken Shale to Gulf Coast refineries, replacing oil from Venezuela. The reality is that most of the increase in U.S. oil and gas production has come despite the Obama Administration. It is flowing from the shale boom, which is the result of private technological advances and investment. Mr. Obama has seen the energy sun rise and is crowing like a rooster that he made it happen.Mr. Obama yesterday also repeated his proposal that now is the time to raise taxes on oil and gas companies, as if doing so will make them more likely to drill. He must not believe the economic truism that when you tax something you get less of it, including fewer of the new jobs they've created.http://online.wsj.co...Opinion_LEADTop Edited by RichClem, 26 February 2012 - 07:38 AM.

A Wall Street Journal opinion piece. What a shock!Accurate and fair. What, you think it's a secret that Obama has greatly slowed down oil production over which he has control?Gingrich told the truth. You lied. Almost all expanded oil production is in spite of the Marxist-in-Chief.I don't want stupid, uninformed people to vote. Do you? That's true. He didn't advocate "disenfranchising voters." Lie much? Why would anyone want imbeciles to vote?Notice that Weyrich said, "our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down."By 'our' he means Republicans/Conservatives, and that is why voter suppression and disenfranchisement are standard operating procedure for the GOP.Another blatant Democrat Talking Point Lie. It is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, behind closed doors, corporations hand state legislators the changes to the law they desire that directly benefit their bottom line. Along with legislators, corporations have membership in ALEC. Corporations sit on all nine ALEC task forces and vote with legislators to approve model bills. They have their own corporate governing board which meets jointly with the legislative board. They fund almost all of ALEC's operations. Participating legislators, overwhelmingly conservative Republicans, then bring those proposals home and introduce them in statehouses across the land as their own brilliant ideas and important public policy innovationswithout disclosing that corporations crafted and voted on the bills.http://www.sourcewat...xchange_CouncilALEC is very much active today. That's why so many state legislatures have introduced so many similar pieces of legislation in the last couple of years. The laws were written by their corporate masters. But, I'm sure you have no problem with corporations writing legislation. After all, they always have the people's best interest at heart, and not the bottom line, right?
