Aug. 9, 2006: John Whites son Aaron, then 19, awoke his father to tell him a chilling story: several thugs, threatening violence, were coming to the Whites home, on Miller Place in Suffolk County, Long Island and they were not coming for tea. In fact, the hooligans stated they intended to beat up Aaron, along with his father and to rape his mother. The incident precipitated from a bogus online posting purporting that Aaron planned to rape a girl known by the gang. Outside their home the mob, and it's leader, Daniel Cicciaro, 17, had assembled blocking off the street. They were busy revving their engines and flashing their lights in an intimidating manner. Mr. White told his wife to call 911, grabbed a handgun, and went to his driveway where he confronted a trespassing Cicciaro. Cicciaro lunged for Mr. Whites gun, which went off killing Cicciaro. Mr. White was charged with second-degree manslaughter and third-degree weapons violations. He was ultimately convicted of both charges. Mr. White lost his appeal bid to the New York State Supreme Court. The four judge panel rejected all the arguments made by Mr. Whites lawyers, including the seemingly inappropriate conduct of trial Judge Barbara Khan. The judges in their decision wrote: Considering all of these circumstances, there is thus ample support for the jurys conclusion that a reasonable person in the defendants position, and with his background and experiences, would not have believed that the use of deadly physical force was necessary to prevent the teenagers from unlawfully entering or attempting to enter his home to commit a crime, and that the shooting was thus not justified.November 14 2007: Joe Horn, 61, spotted two burglars breaking into his next-door neighbor's home in Pasadena, Texas. He called 9-1-1 to summon police to the scene. While on the phone with emergency dispatch, Horn stated that he had the right to use deadly force to defend property, referring to a law (Texas Penal Code 9.41, 9.42, and 9.43) which justified the use of deadly force to protect Horn's home. Horn exited his home with his shotgun, while the 9-1-1 operator tried to dissuade him from that action. On the 9-1-1 tape, he is heard confronting the suspects, saying, "Move, and you're dead", immediately followed by the sound of a shotgun blast, followed by two more. Following the shootings Mr. Horn told the 9-1-1 operator, "They came in the front yard with me, man, I had no choice!" [...]A plain clothes police detective responding to the 9-1-1 call arrived at the scene before the shooting, and witnessed the escalation and shootings while remaining in his car. His report on the incident indicated that the men who were killed "received gunfire from the rear". The detective did not arrest Horn. The difference between these two incidents?John White was a black man, and the person he killed was white.Joe Horn was a white man, and the people he killed were black.John White was defending his own home and family from the very real threat of people who's stated intention was to do harm to him and his family.Joe Horn was not in any physical danger from the two men who had burglarized his neighbor's home.Did race play a factor?

9 Lies Republicans Tell About Women's BodiesRep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) apologized Tuesday to Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) for accusing her of lying about the gender breakdown of a contraception hearing panel. But plenty of real lies remain in the debate over women's health. Some are promoted by Republican lawmakers as they push legislation that limits reproductive rights. Others come from GOP presidential candidates and their surrogates. 1. Birth Control Causes Prostate CancerNew Hampshire state Rep. Jeanine Notter [R]asked a male representative, "As a man, would it interest you to know that Dr. Brownstein just published an article that links the pill to prostate cancer?"The study described in the newsletter of Dr. David Brownstein, a physician and holistic practitioner in Michigan, suggests men may ingest estrogen through environmental contamination, not in utero from mothers taking birth control.2. Abortion Causes Breast CancerThe New Hampshire House recently passed a bill that would require doctors to tell women seeking abortions that the procedure can cause breast cancer. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Jeanine Notter (see lie number 1). 3. Birth Control Is A Sex PillRush Limbaugh showed he has no understanding of how birth control pills work when he attacked Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown law student barred from testifying as a Democratic witness at a congressional hearing about the Obama administration's contraception policy. 4. Abortion Industry Is 'Selling Abortions'Arizona state Rep. Terri Proud [R], "For too long, Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry have placed selling abortions above the health and safety of women." Proud wants to require women seeking an abortion to watch the procedure being performed first.5. Women Can't Get Pregnant From RapeIdaho state Sen. Chuck Winder [R] suggested that women seeking abortions may lie about rape. Some anti-abortion activists actually believe that rape cannot result in pregnancy.Buzzfeed dug up a series of bizarre statements Republicans have made about pregnancy, rape, juices not flowing and more. 6. Prenatal Testing Leads To AbortionRick Santorum made prenatal testing a campaign issue last month when he declared the tests are designed to "cull the ranks of the disabled in our society" by encouraging abortions. 7. HPV Vaccine Causes RetardationBack when Rick Perry was campaigning for president, his rivals attacked him for signing an executive order mandating the human papillomavirus vaccine for young girls, and misinformation quickly spread. Michele Bachmann insinuated that the vaccine causes mental retardation, while Santorum spoke out against "having little girls inoculated at the force and compulsion of the government."8. Plan B Causes AbortionsThe debate over the Obama administration's contraception policy has yielded some puzzling claims about birth control and Plan B, the so-called morning-after pill. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) addressed the House in February, urging his colleagues to reverse Obama's mandate for health insurance coverage of 'abortion-inducing drugs' and Michele Bachmann called Plan B an abortion pill.9. Your Fetus Is Just FineThe Arizona Senate passed a bill this month to protect doctors from "wrongful birth" lawsuits -- effectively allowing them to withhold information that may lead a patient to get an abortion.

Romney Justifies Denying Health Care To People With Pre-Existing Conditions: We Cant Play The Game Like ThatAs Mitt Romney tries to distance himself from Obamacare, he ran into some trouble last night when he got stumped by comedian Jay Leno. Leno asked Romney what he would do to help people with preexisting medical conditions, who are often denied coverage today by insurance companies worried about increased costs. Romneys answer was essentially nothing. Someone who has forgone insurance doesnt deserve to get medical coverage, Romney suggested, because, we cant play the game like that. Asked what he would do to help people with pre-existing conditions, Romney replied: ROMNEY: People with pre-existing conditions, as long as they have been insured before, they are going to be able to continue to have insurance. LENO: Suppose they havent been insured before? ROMNEY: Well, if they are 45 years old and they show up and say I want insurance because I have heart disease, its like, Hey guys. We cant play the game like that. Youve got to get insurance when you are well and then if you get ill, you are going to be covered.Sounds like what Romney is saying is that people should be forced to buy healthcare when they are young and healthy. Now why does that sound familiar?

Unnamed Congressman Has Environmental Activist Tim DeChristopher Moved into Solitary ConfinementEnvironmental activist Tim DeChristopher, who was given a two-year sentence in prison for making fake bids in a Utah public land auction that was later found to be corrupt, has reportedly been moved to solitary confinement after a member of Congress contacted the Bureau of Prisons. Peaceful Uprising, a climate change activism group which DeChristopher co-founded, states in a press release posted on March 27: On the evening of Friday March 9th, Tim DeChristopher was summarily removed from the minimum security camp where he has been held since September 2011, and moved into the FCI Herlong’s Special Housing Unit (SHU). Tim was informed by Lieutenant Weirich that he was being moved to the SHU because an unidentified congressman had called from Washington DC, complaining of an email that Tim had sent to a friend. Tim was inquiring about the reported business practices of one of his legal fund contributors, threatening to return the money if their values no longer aligned with his own. According to Prison officials, Tim will continue to be held in isolated confinement pending an investigation. There is no definite timeline for inmates being held in the SHU — often times they await months for the conclusion of an investigation. In the SHU, Tim’s movement and communications are severely restricted. In the past two weeks, he has been allowed out of his 8 X 10 cell (which he shares with one other inmate) four times, each time for less than an hour. The SHU could have been designed by Franz Kafka. Tim is allowed one book in his cell, and four in his property locker. His writing means are restricted to a thin ink cartridge which makes correspondence extremely difficult. He can still receive mail from the outside, but has no other form of communication other than 15 minutes of phone calls per month.First off, this congress person who ordered DeChristopher into solitary confinement is a coward and should be unmasked. DeChristopher is powerless in prison. He is already being punished. If the description is correct, it seems like a congressman is trying to intimidate DeChristopher for wanting to return money. To amplify the punishment because of an email is cruel. That the punishment is to place DeChristopher into solitary confinement is even more inhumane. In fact, it is what a fascist country would do to a political prisoner. There do not appear to be any other instances known where a congressman called up the Bureau of Prisons and was able to get a prisoner moved. That seems terribly arbitrary and unjust. So, why is the Bureau of Prisons granting the unnamed congressman this power? Did DeChristopher violate some regulation he is supposed to abide by when he wrote the email?Update:A staff member with Peaceful Uprising has provided further confirmation that DeChristopher is in solitary confinement. The staff person reports “phone lines have been flooded all day long at FCI Herlong, the BOP office in DC and to various members of Congress, and adds, “Hopefully, the pressure will not subside and not only Tim’s issue, but the issue of keeping prisoners in inhumane conditions while awaiting ‘indefinite’ hearings will also be brought to light.” Peaceful Uprising’s outrage and disbelief comes from fact that a “congress person was able to read Tim’s emails.” The group asks, “How and why do political representatives have a say in BOP affairs? And what are the underlying connections between such representatives and those overseeing prisons?” The identity of the member of Congress who is doing this to DeChristopher is still unknown. Peaceful Uprising hopes “investigative journalism and public pressure” will lead to the member’s identity becoming known.DeChristopher was prosecuted by the Obama administration and sentenced to two years in federal prison for disrupting a last-minute Bush oil lease auction in Utah that was found to be improper and was withdrawn. Last month, the Department of Justice fined two companies $550,000 for conspiring on the bidding for a similar oil and gas auction. There were no criminal prosecutions of this federal felony. One of the companies involved, Oxbow Corporation, is owned by top pro-Mitt Romney Super PAC contributor William Koch, brother to David and Charles Koch of Koch Industries.LinkExcellent. Send the guy who was trying to bring the corruption to light to prison, but not the people who actually were corrupt. Edited by MistyBlue, 28 March 2012 - 01:56 PM.

Romney Pisses Off The RussiansMemo to Mitt Romney from Russia: Didn't the cold war end more than two decades ago? That pretty much sums up the reaction from many Russians today (March 28), where Mr. Romney's "enemy No. 1" jab at Moscow has been played over and over by official media, amid mounting public outrage, since he uttered it in response to President Obama's inadvertently overheard blunt political chat with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on the sidelines of a security conference in Seoul.Mr. Obama was seen making nice with Mr. Medvedev and, apparently unaware that microphones were on, asking the Russians to dial back their objections to US missile defense plans until after he's reelected in November, when "I'll have more flexibility."Romney pounced, not merely at the appearance of secret diplomacy by Obama, but seemingly at Russia itself."This is, without question, our No. 1 geopolitical foe. They they fight every cause for the world's worst actors. The idea that he has some more flexibility in mind for Russia is very, very troubling indeed," Romney said in an interview with CNN. "The idea that our president is planning on doing something with them that he's not willing to tell the American people before the election is something I find very, very alarming."While the suggestion of electoral connivance between Obama and Medvedev has made little impression in Russia, which has just been through its own carefully orchestrated presidential campaign, Romney's comments hit like a bomb."It came as a shock. You just don't expect to hear that from someone who's running for US president," says Masha Lipman, editor of the Moscow Carnegie Center's Pro et Contra journal. "I thought an enemy was a country or force that seeks to kill Americans or destroy the US, not a country like Russia that has some civilized differences, which it expresses in forums like the [United Nations] Security Council."House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) took a slight dig at Mitt Romney for criticizing President Obama while the president was out of the country.Boehner suggested it was inappropriate for Romney, the front-running GOP presidential contender, to take aim at Obama's exchange with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev."Clearly while the president is overseas, he's at a conference and while the president is overseas I think it's appropriate that people not be critical of him or our country," Boehner said in response to a question from NBC News about whether he agreed with Romney's assessment that Russia is the "number one geopolitical foe" of the United States.http://firstread.msn...ma-while-abroad

GOP is running out of gas on Solyndra, but admit they will use it as a campaign issue anyway.House Republicans look like theyre running out of ammunition on Solyndra. Gone are their threats of hauling Rahm Emanuel and Carol Browner up to the Capitol to testify about how they helped the now bankrupt California solar company. The White House hopes to soon remove the GOP's threat of a contempt of Congress vote by turning over the final scraps from thousands of pages of internal documents. And one of the main GOP investigators, Rep. Cliff Stearns, is mired in his own political mess after questioning the legitimacy of President Barack Obama's birth certificate and over allegations he tried to bribe another Florida Republican to get out of their August primary race. More than a year into a probe that's extended to the Energy Department loan guarantee portfolio, Republican investigators even acknowledge they've fallen short of substantiating their allegations that the administration helped political allies like Tulsa oilman George Kaiser secure hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies through a loan guarantee to Solyndra. "Is there a criminal activity? Perhaps not," Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa told POLITICO after last Tuesdays showdown with Energy Secretary Steven Chu. "Is there a political influence and connections? Perhaps not. Did they bend the rules for an agenda, an agenda not covered within the statute? Absolutely." In some respects, Republicans have accomplished their mission. Even if no one goes to jail, they've turned Solyndra into a four-letter word, vilified the Nobel laureate Chu and left a popular DOE program in shambles. They also make no bones about how they've turned Solyndra into a campaign issue. "Ultimately, we'll stop it on Election Day, hopefully," Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told Environment & Energy Daily. "And bringing attention to these things helps the voters and citizens of the country make the kind of decision that I hope helps them as they evaluate who they are going to vote for in November." Solyndras presence can be seen on the campaign trail, from the swing state TV ads paid for by the Koch brothers-linked nonprofit group Americans for Prosperity to Mitt Romney's perpetual use of "crony capitalism" during his stump speech. Solyndras become an iconic issue much like Keystone has, said Rep. Lee Terry (R-Neb.). All you have to do is say those words and it raises an image, and the image is wasted tax dollars on some type of fairy tale chase of trying to create a market when one doesnt exist.Read more: http://www.politico....l#ixzz1qRQz1FKn

Of course, that's translated by the pro-abortion screamers that women may lie about rape.

Of course, that's translated by the pro-abortion screamers that women may lie about rape.Sure sounds like what he wants is for women seeking an abortion due to rape to be interrogated by their doctors. The sponsor of an Idaho mandatory ultrasound bill, state Sen. Chuck Winder, made some highly controversial comments Monday during his closing arguments, suggesting women might falsely use rape as an excuse to obtain an abortion. Just before the Idaho's Senate passed the bill, which requires woman to have an ultrasound prior to obtaining an abortion, opponents of the bill pointed out that it makes no exception for rape victims, incest victims or women in medical emergencies. Winder, a Republican from Boise, responded to those concerns by raising the question of whether women understand when they have been raped. Rape and incest was used as a reason to oppose this," Winder said on the Senate floor. "I would hope that when a woman goes in to a physician with a rape issue, that physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage, was this pregnancy caused by normal relations in a marriage or was it truly caused by a rape. I assume that's part of the counseling that goes on.LinkBTW, the procedures used for parentage determination during pregnancy (Chorionic villus sampling [taking a small piece of the placenta], or Amniocentesis [collection of a sample of fluid that bathes the baby] are invasive and pose a risk to the mother and the fetus.Chorionic villi sampling may be done from the 10th through 13th week of pregnancy. Amniocentesis can be done between the 14th through 24th week of pregnancy. You expect women to wait that long to have an abortion if they were raped?

Where's the evidence this conversation ever took place? How do we know Ms Omand isn't lying about the whole thing? It stated right in my OP that Harty confirmed that he said it, and there was a link embedded in the article to the Concord Monitor, which is who he said it to.A 91-year-old state representative told a constituent that he believes in eugenics and that the world would be better off without "defective people."Barrington Republican Martin Harty told Sharon Omand, a Strafford resident who manages a community mental health program, that "the world is too populated" and there are "too many defective people," according to an e-mail account of the conversation by Omand. Asked what he meant, she said Harty clarified, "You know the mentally ill, the retarded, people with physical disabilities and drug addictions - the defective people society would be better off without."Harty confirmed to the Monitor that he made the comments to Omand. Harty told the Monitor the world population has increased dramatically, and "it's a very dangerous situation if it doubles again." Asked about people who are mentally ill, he asked, apparently referring to a lack of financial resources, "Can we afford to bring them through?"Harty said nature has a way of "getting rid of stupid people," and "now we're saving everyone who gets born."Lawmaker Advocates EugenicsI think the old bastard is probably senile.BTW, if you're going to respond to a post on page 1 of a 64 page thread, please leave some clue as to what you're talking about. We have covered many subjects in this thread since page 1. Virginia Senate: Women Will Pay For Those Unnecessary State Mandated UltrasoundsIs this hypocrisy? Is it cruelty? Is it stupidity? How about all of the above. Earlier this month, Virginia passed a law that mandated that all women who want an abortion must have an ultrasound, whether they want to or not and whether their doctor believes it is medically necessary or not. The Virginia State Senate passed its budget on Monday, and as part of the debate the Senate voted 20-19 (one Democrat voted with Republicans and one Republican, Sen. Jill Holtzman Vogel--who originally co-sponsored the ultrasound mandate--didn't vote) to reject an amendment that would have authorized $3 million to pay for the ultrasounds being done on low-income women and which would have compelled insurance companies to cover such procedures in their policies. Logic would dictate that if the state is going to force a medical procedure on women, then it needs to ensure that those women don't have to pay for it. Logic. What a quaint notion. We'll see what happens when the two houses of the Virginia legislature get together to negotiate a single budget. We can and should put pressure on legislators in Virginia. You can check out the Virginia Progressive Caucus here. But if the Virginia budget doesn't fix this, well, that would just stink.Yes it would.

Michelle Malkin's website Twitchy.com Posts Fake Photo of Trayvon MartinMalkins new website, Twitchy.com, posted a photo of Trayvon Martin flipping the finger at the camera man (oh the horror). However, Ms. Malkin with her #TeamDueProcess, in her quest to prove media bias at the expense of the slain Martin, decided not to investigate the origin of the photo which was juxtaposed next to a picture of a smiling George Zimmerman with a caption saying: Because nothing says fair like putting a mugshot looking photo in county orange next to a 5 year old picture of the victim as a child. But hey, two can play that game. And in their post titled Why #TeamDueProcess is important for justice, they said: Recognize these two people? If you dont, well help you out. The man on the liberal side is George Zimmerman, the man accused of murdering the boy on the right, Trayvon Martin. The mainstream media wont show you these two photos because they convey a message that no one else wants to take into consideration. The kicker? The photo on the right was of a different Trayvon Martin. One that was still alive and in no way related to the deceased. You might be asking, Well, how could she have known? She and her Team should have known because the photo in question came from a Facebook profile belonging to a living breathing, middle-finger-flipping Trayvon Martin who lists his school as Myers Middle School not Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School. Additionally, all of his relatives are listed as living in Savannah, Georgia. The late Martin grew up in Miami Gardens.

Bloggers Cherry-Pick From Social Media to Cast Trayvon Martin as a MenaceFor the second time in a week, a conservative blog has published excerpts from what it described as a Twitter feed maintained by Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager who was shot and killed last month by a neighborhood watch volunteer patrolling a gated community. The new blog post on the dead teenagers social media account, which features an image of him making an obscene gesture and quotes from a message that includes an abbreviation for an obscenity, was posted on The Daily Caller, a site founded by Tucker Carlson, a conservative pundit, and Neil Patel, who once worked as an adviser to former Vice President Dick Cheney.Like the sites previous post on another Twitter feed apparently maintained by Trayvon Martin, the information published on Thursday seems to have been selected to reinforce the argument that the victim of the fatal shooting was a menacing figure who might plausibly have been mistaken for a criminal. That impression is reinforced by the fact that while the post mentions and links to what appears to be a MySpace account set up by Trayvon Martin in 2009, The Daily Callers editors chose not to display any of the many photographs posted there that show him in a far softer light: holding up a birthday cake with his name on it, fishing with his father, dressed in a suit for his prom, looking excited to inspect an aircraft engine.Similarly, the selection of Twitter updates published on Monday by The Daily Caller was accompanied by what appears to be a profile photograph he used, in which he was wearing a grill, a type of removable dental jewelry associated with rappers, but did not show or discuss the eight other Twitpic photographs associated with and linked to from the account. Those images a bag of candy, a pencil drawing of the name Tray sketched by his girlfriend; a school lunch; a tattoo of his mother Sybrinas name; portraits of two girls; a football field; a new pair of sneakers which remain online even though the associated Twitter account has been closed, paint an image of a fairly ordinary teenagers life. The Daily Caller chose to publish this picture of Trayvon Martin:But not pics he had also posted online like these: Edited by MistyBlue, 30 March 2012 - 10:11 AM.
