It's not that I am opposed to killing babies, it's just that I hate empowering women and allowing them rights,,,, It's not that anti-gunners are against mass murder. It's just that they hate the second amendment. In any event, I am bowing out of Misty's thread..... Being run out of it, from where I sit. But then, I'm an *** hole that takes cheap shots at departing posters.

Misty, on 27 Feb 2013 - 09:56, said:SCOTUS said so. Deal with it.They were veritable GODS when they rendered the Citizens United Decision. We may not always like their decisions, and to be sure I don't like the Citizens United decision, but as a realist I have to accept the fact that if SCOTUS rules it, it's the law of the land.

Misty, on 27 Feb 2013 - 14:59, said:Note to Chuck,Please spare me the lecture about how this woman is entitled to the FREEDOM to own a gun.How would making me defenseless make those kids safer? How does denying the mentally ill the right to own a gun, make you defenseless? All she did was a really late term abortion,,,,Abortion is the termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to viability. You can't abort children who have already been born silly.

Top that off with treating the person on the site you claim is your best friend like [excrement] most of the time, makes me wonder what your mental malfunction really is all about.Thank you for coming to my defense but I don't take the stuff Chuck says to me on the forum personally. We do go at it pretty good, and I think I give as good as I get.I keep that separate from our friendship off the forum.Maybe that's hard for people to understand, but it works for us. In any event, I am bowing out of Misty's thread..... Being run out of it, from where I sit. But then, I'm an *** hole that takes cheap shots at departing posters. Yes you are.

"flying monkeys"? is that code for something? who are you referring to? are you a closet racist? you want to talk some planet of the apes smack too?The Dictionary of slang defines a Flying Monkey as......'a rabid right-wing reactionary, generally characterized by blind allegiance to the Republican party line, and consistant repetition of talking points from Fox News or Conservative radio hosts.'OR.......'A woman's vagina covered entirely by dense pubic hair.OR.......'The insertion of a partner's penis into the anal cavity resulting in extreme pleasure.'Take your pick.

New Documents Show Reagan Gave Go-Ahead To Mayan GenocideRobert Parry on a newly-released document that spells out how President Ronald Reagan promoted genocide in Central America:Soon after taking office in 1981, President Ronald Reagan’s national security team agreed to supply military aid to the brutal right-wing regime in Guatemala to pursue the goal of exterminating not only “Marxist guerrillas” but their “civilian support mechanisms,” according to a newly disclosed document from the National Archives.Over the next several years, the military assistance from the Reagan administration helped the Guatemalan army do just that, engaging in the slaughter of some 100,000 people, including what a truth commission deemed genocide against the Mayan Indians in the northern highlands.Recently discovered documents at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, also reveal that Reagan’s White House was reaching out to Israel in a scheme to circumvent congressional restrictions on military equipment for the Guatemalan military. In 1983, national security aide Oliver North (who later became a central figure in the Iran-Contra scandal) reported in a memo that Reagan’s Deputy National Security Advisor Robert McFarlane (another key Iran-Contra figure) was approaching Israel over how to deliver 10 UH-1H helicopters to Guatemala to give the army greater mobility in its counterinsurgency war.According to these documents that I found at the Reagan library – and other records declassified in the late 1990s – it’s also clear that Reagan and his administration were well aware of the butchery underway in Guatemala and elsewhere in Central America. The relaxed attitude toward the Guatemalan regime’s brutality took shape in spring 1981 as Reagan’s State Department “advised our Central American embassies that it has been studying ways to restore a closer, cooperative relationship with Guatemala,” according to a White House “Situation Room Checklist” dated April 8, 1981.The document added: “State believes a number of changes have occurred which could make Guatemalan leaders more receptive to a new U.S. initiative: the Guatemalans view the new administration as more sympathetic to their problems [and] they are less suspect of the U.S. role in El Salvador,” where the Reagan administration was expanding support for another right-wing regime infamous for slaughtering its political opponents, including Catholic clergy.“State has concluded that any attempt to reestablish a dialogue would require some initial, condition-free demonstration of our goodwill. However, this could not include military sales which would provoke serious U.S. public and congressional criticism. State will undertake a series of confidence building measures, free of preconditions, which minimize potential conflict with existing legislation,” which then barred military assistance to Guatemala because of its long record of human rights crimes. The “checklist” added that the State Department “has also decided that the administration should engage the Guatemalan government at the highest level in a dialogue on our bilateral relations and the initiatives we can take together to improve them. Secretary [of State Alexander] Haig has designated [retired] General Vernon Walters as his personal emissary to initiate this process with President [Fernando Romeo] Lucas [Garcia].“If Lucas is prepared to give assurances that he will take steps to halt government involvement in the indiscriminate killing of political opponents and to foster a climate conducive to a viable electoral process, the U.S. will be prepared to approve some military sales immediately.”But the operative word in that paragraph was “indiscriminate.” The Reagan administration expressed no problem with killing civilians if they were considered supporters of the guerrillas who had been fighting against the country’s ruling oligarchs and generals since the 1950s when the CIA organized the overthrow of Guatemala’s reformist President Jacobo Arbenz. It's times like this when I miss Clem. It would have been so much fun to see him defend his savior Ronald Reagan.

With 2 Ships Damaged, Shell Suspends Arctic Drilling After a series of costly and embarrassing accidents in its efforts to drill exploratory wells off the north coast of Alaska last year, Royal Dutch Shell announced on Wednesday that it would not return to the Arctic in 2013. The company’s two drill ships suffered serious accidents as they were leaving drilling sites in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas last fall and winter and are being sent to Asia for repairs. Shell acknowledged in a statement that the ships would not be repaired in time to drill during the short summer window this year. “Our decision to pause in 2013 will give us time to ensure the readiness of all our equipment and people,” said Marvin E. Odum, president of Shell Oil Company. He said Arctic offshore drilling was a long-term project that the company would continue to pursue. The Interior Department, the Coast Guard and the Justice Department are reviewing Shell’s operations, which have included groundings, environmental and safety violations, weather delays, the collapse of its spill-containment equipment and other failures. Shell has invested more than $4.5 billion in leases and equipment and spent several years on an intensive lobbying campaign to persuade federal officials that it could drill safely in the unforgiving waters of the Arctic Ocean. It now acknowledges that the venture has been much more difficult than it anticipated. Shell had planned to drill as many as 10 wells in 2012 but was able to start only two. Federal regulators barred the company from drilling into oil-bearing formations because it did not have adequate spill prevention and cleanup equipment available. “This is not a surprise, as Shell has had numerous serious problems in getting to and from the Arctic, as well as problems operating in the Arctic,” said Lois N. Epstein, Arctic program director for the Wilderness Society and a member of the Interior Department panel reviewing Shell’s operations. “Shell’s managers have not been straight with the American public, and possibly even with its own investors, on how difficult its Arctic Ocean operations have been this past year,” she said. Both ships involved in the drilling, the Noble Discoverer and the Kulluk, suffered serious accidents while moving to or from the oil fields. In addition, Coast Guard inspectors found numerous violations on the Discoverer and have referred the matter to federal prosecutors for investigation. Read more at link in title. GOP Rep Says Dick Cheney Will Rot in Hell Over Iraq WarFormer Vice President Dick Cheney is probably going to hell for his role in the Iraq War, Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) said while speaking at a Young Americans for Liberty conference in Raleigh, N.C."Congress will not hold anyone to blame," Jones said. " "Lyndon Johnson's probably rotting in hell right now because of the Vietnam War and he probably needs to move over for Dick Cheney."The remark drew applause from the audience, while Jones went on to praise Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) for helping him understand the role of the constitution and Congress when deciding whether to go to war. (Young Americans for Liberty stemmed from Paul's 2008 presidential campaign.)Jones himself voted in favor of the war in 2003, but has expressed regret about the decision and become a vocal critic."Too many times in Washington nobody apologizes, especially when you send young men and women to die," he said. "We apologize if we get caught by the police driving drunk, if we have an affair, then we apologize. But never does anyone apologize for buying into a lie to send men and women to die."If Jones' name sounds familiar, it may be because of another initiative he'd taken up: changing the name of "french fries" to "freedom fries."Wow! Who would ever have expected that from old 'Freedom Fries' Jones?

Wow! Who would ever have expected that from old 'Freedom Fries' Jones? It occurs to me that the Democratic Party may not have reached out and made use of the libertarian extremists across the aisle to further a pacifist agenda in the last 5 years the way it might have.

The modern day Democratic Party hardly seems like the pacifists they were in the past. They have been forced to become more hawkish under the threat of being called 'soft on terror'. They had that excuse in the Bush years, though I wish they hadn't used it. The media, in any case, didn't--so they had no excuse not to be raising legitimate worries about war and civil-rights abuses than they were (and are). It would obviously be politically disastrous if we were attacked again on their watch in the process of their de-funding defense and counter-terrorism programs. Nevertheless, I worry that we ended the conversation about how safe the American public has to feel in the dangerous world we're living in. The fact is that directing so much of our nation's wealth increases suffering and death within the nation that wasn't caused by explosions created by terrorists. The media should be discussing such issues more seriously--instead of just ridiculing the Tea Party, Ron Paul, and etcetera.

Kansas Bill Would Protect Doctors Who Mislead Women About Their PregnanciesThe Kansas Senate Judiciary Committee recommended a bill yesterday that would effectively allow doctors to lie or withhold information about debilitating genetic conditions or birth defects in order to influence womens decisions about their pregnancies.Kansas SB 142 provides blanket protection from wrongful birth lawsuits to doctors, with section 1(a) reading:No civil action may be commenced in any court for a claim of wrongful life or wrongful birth, and no damages may be recovered in any civil action for any physical condition of a minor that existed at the time of such minors birth if the damages sought arise out of a claim that a persons action or omission contributed to such minors mother not obtaining an abortion. The Arizona State Senate passed a similar law in 2012, but that proposal contained a provision absent from the Kansas bill allowing wrongful birth suits in the event of an intentional or grossly negligent act or omission. The proposal was included as a provision in an omnibus anti-abortion bill last year, but was so controversial that it ending up being submitted as a standalone bill in this cycle, according to Kansas NOW lobbyist Elise Higgins.Despite Kansas's dismal reproductive rights record, Kansas legislators have already introduced over 90 pages of anti-choice legislation in 2013.Giving legal cover to doctors to lie or withhold information from women about any debilitating genetic conditions or birth defects that the fetus she is carrying may have, without fear of consequences. There's your 'small government' party in action.A woman has no right to know if the fetus she is carrying is healthy or not. After all, she's too stupid to make an informed decision on her own.Remember that healthy baby you were expecting?Surprise!I'm sure the next bill introduced will be a bill that provides all kinds of assistance for parents raising a child with special needs.
