I was doing a little research on the Second Amendment and came across this:Further research showed me thatafter the Revolutionary War, the Continental Army was disbanded and state militias became the new nation's sole ground army. Our firsttrained standing army, the Legion of the United States, wasn't established until 1792, a year after the Bill of Rights was adopted. So, since we had no standing army when the Second Amendment was adopted, they had to depend on state militias, hence the phrase 'a well regulated militia'.I hear a lot of people say that the Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms in case we have to rebel against a tyrannical government, yet it seems that the Founders framed the Constitution in part as a response to the danger posed by a rebellion against the government (Shay's Rebellion).Ironic.you realize that a "state militia" in those days was simply a bunch of private armed citizens.....right?

you realize that a "state militia" in those days was simply a bunch of private armed citizens.....right?Right, but that's all we had, because we had no standing army at the time that the Bill of Rights was adopted. Most of the Continental Army was disbanded in 1783 and the Legion of the United States which was the foundation of the United States Army wasn't established until 1792, a year after the Bill of Rights was adopted. So we had to have private armed citizens to provide defense and defend public safety.I found the part about the Shay's Rebellion very interesting.I remember learning about it (what seems like 100 years ago) but I couldn't have told you what it was about until I read that article, and did a little research on it.A lot of people say that the Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms in case we have to rebel against a tyrannical government, yet the article says that the Founders framed the Constitution in part as a response to the danger posed by the Shay's Rebellion, which was a revolt against what was considered by some to be harsh government policies.Another good point was that if the Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms in case we have to rebel against a tyrannical government, they would have repealed the Constitution's treason clause, which defines treason as taking up arms against the government. There's a section on the Shay's Rebellion Wikipedia page about the impact it had on the framing of the Constitution.http://en.wikipedia....hays'_Rebellion

MistyBlue - About GolfboyHe has never backed up an inch - ever. And he has been in dozens of flame wars over FACTS. No one bats a thousand - but some people are crooked little twerps. There's no one on this board who has not seen me eat crow. When I have been misinformed, I have confessed as much - many times. And considering my prodigious intellect and encyclopedic knowledge, it's fair to assume that I have been wrong less than ANYONE. Therefore, I would have less backtracks than anyone, IF everyone we as honest as I.Some are not. G00fgirl is among them.I've never seen anyone double down on stupid as much as he does. And he is constantly accusing me of saying things I never said.I'm starting to wonder if he's really as big a troll as I thought, or if he is intellectually challenged and can't read, otherwise why would he put up a siggy that is such an obvious lie?

He's like a smart WYT (WhadYaThink) - but that could mean an IQ of 80.I would guess his IQ is probably in the teens - 115-120. IOW, smart, but an order of magnitude removed from any sort of genius. So he trolls, like wyt, a giggly nonentity with nothing to contribute save confirmation bias. He counts it as a victory if he gets his opponent steamed, and never entertains the notion of changing anyone's mind.

Republicans have no shame. RNC Chair: Rig The Next Presidential Election For Republicans A little over a year ago, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett [R] proposed rigging the presidential election for Mitt Romney by allocating electoral votes based upon which candidate carried each individual congressional district, rather than upon who wins the state as a whole. Thanks in large part to Republican gerrymandering, if Corbetts election-rigging plan had been in effect last November in the Republican-controlled states of Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin, Romney would have won the Electoral College despite losing the popular vote by nearly four points. In an interview with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus did not simply endorse this election-rigging scheme, he indicated that it should be targeted towards consistently Democratic states where it is most likely to skew the presidential election to the GOPs benefit: Republicans are in a unique position to make headway with such a plan nationally because Wisconsin and other key states that have gone to the Democratic presidential candidate in recent elections are currently controlled by Republicans at the state level. The change would give Republicans a chance to claim some of those states electoral votes. I think its something that a lot of states that have been consistently blue that are fully controlled red ought to be looking at, Priebus said of the plan to change how electoral votes are granted. Such a system gives more local control to the states, he argued. This would not be the GOPs only effort to rig elections so that they win no matter what the will of the American people may be. Last November, Democratic House candidates won the national popular vote by nearly 1.4million votes. Yet, thanks to Republican gerrymandering, they would need to win the popular vote by over seven points in order to take back the House.

I see the Jerry Springer fan club thread has made the front page again!!!How you can look at some of the crap on the front page and compare this thread to Jerry Springer is beyond me.That's really an insult to the Conservatives who post in this thread.I don't start many threads, so this is the place where I post the stuff that interests me.You are quite free to ignore it.But I guess it's more fun to come in here and take a dump, when Liberal bashing is the only arrow you have in your quiver.Got any stats on how many 4 year olds are buying apps for thier I-Phone????I guess the idea that they obviously will be playing it on their parent's iPhone is foreign to you. They don't have to actually buy it to play it.My two year old grandson plays apps on his brother's iPad Touch. He didn't buy them himself. Why are you posting in a Jerry Springer fan club thread?

So MistyBlue has never bashed anyone?? It was just a reminder of where the Democratic Base mindset is.Of course I have bashed people, but I usually don't start the bashing. I prefer to finish it.FYI, I do not belong to a political party, so I do not qualify as a member of the Democratic base.Hmmm, someone somewhere doesn't care what a young child does on an I-pad,,, thanks for your support in distroying Family Values!!I said that my grandson plays with an iPod touch, not an iPad, and never unsupervised.I am the one who downloads everything that goes on to my two older grandson's iPads, and I assure you I don't download anything that is not appropriate for children. They do not know the password for the router that would allow them to access the internet.I just realized why you have your bloomers in a twist today, and why you suddenly decided to visit my thread and dump on me.From yesterday:It only tooks a few minutes into the press conference and Obama is fear mongering about seniors and veterans not getting thier checks!!It still amazes me people trust this douche bag!!!Oh looky here!Ronald Reagan fear mongering about seniors and veterans not getting thier checks, if the debt ceiling is not raised in September 26, 1987:Unfortunately, Congress consistently brings the Government to the edge of default before facing its responsibility. This brinkmanship threatens the holders of government bonds and those who rely on Social Security and veterans benefits. Interest rates would skyrocket, instability would occur in financial markets, and the Federal deficit would soar. The United States has a special responsibility to itself and the world to meet its obligations. It means we have a well-earned reputation for reliability and credibilitytwo things that set us apart from much of the world. What a douche bag!!!ROFLMAO
