Trump did not say that 42% of the country does not work.
He said that the 4.9% unemployment rate issued by the BLS is false, and that the rate could be as high as 42%, meaning that 42% of the people in this country are out of work and actively seeking a job.
That 42% would not count stay at home parents or retired people, but only people who want to work but don't have a job.
I'm quite sure that if that number was 42% the ramifications of that would be quite visible to all of us.
Not surprised that GB supports a filthy liar like Trump.

And yes he was talking about the official unemployment rate. The figure issued by the BLS which counts people that are willing to work and actively seeking employment.
Not the amount of people in the country who don't work and are not seeking work.

He will never admit that Trump was talking about the official unemployment rate issued by the BLS which counts people who want to work and are actively seeking employment.
NOT people who are stay at home parents, disabled or retired people etc.

He said that rate was not around 5% but more like 42%.
That would mean that 42% of the people in this country who want a job, don't have one.
I wonder if GB can even imagine what that would look like and why it would not be blatantly obvious to all of us?
