The cash register's software does not allow changes after a bill has been rung. They did not ask in advance to be billed separately, and a sign every patron has to walk past said they were unable to bill groups as individuals with cc's. The stuff one of them said, and the way in which he said it, was quite typical of the way I've heard people from NY and NJ talk to others. But this happened in Maryland, and it got so bad the restaurant called the police. I don't know if anyone was arrested.
