Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert abused 4 boys, prosecutors say.

Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert sexually abused at least four boys when he coached wrestling at a high school in Illinois decades ago, federal prosecutors said.

In documents released Friday, prosecutors detailed stunning allegations against Hastert, the longest-running Republican speaker of the House.

The revelation comes days before his April 27 sentencing in a financial violation case. He pleaded guilty last year to structuring money transactions to evade reporting where he took massive amounts of funds he was withdrawing.Investigators said the transactions involved $3.5 million he paid in hush money to one of his accusers.Prosecutors listed four boys Hastert allegedly abused at a high school in Yorkville, Illinois.An additional one -- a fifth student -- died years later, according to the document.

The accusations came to light after investigators found out he was paying an ex-student to stay quiet about sexual abuse allegations, prosecutors allege.The student was among four others who told investigators he abused them, including one who was 14 at the time, the documents allege.The allegations date to the 1960s and 1970s, according to the prosecutors' court filing.Hastert will not face sexual abuse charges because the statutes of limitation have expired.

All those who accused him of sexual abuse were wrestlers at the high school, according to the documents.In two separate cases, Hastert massaged one boy each in a locker room and performed unspecified sexual acts on them, prosecutors allege.In another instance, he allegedly massaged a boy's groin area and singled him out to stay in his hotel room during a wrestling camp.

Another accuser said Hastert touched him inappropriately in a "very weird" way while he was a student, prosecutors said."The actions at the core of this case took place not on the defendant's national public stage but in his private one-on-one encounters in an empty locker room and a motel room with minors that violated the special trust between those young boys and their coach," prosecutors said.

During his time at Yorkville High School, Hastert was a beloved coach. He was named Illinois coach of the year after leading the wrestling team to the state championship.

In a statement Saturday, Hastert 's attorney Thomas Green said the former speaker "acknowledges that as a young man he committed transgressions for which he is profoundly sorry.""He earnestly apologizes to his former students, family, friends, previous constituents and all others affected by the harm his actions have caused," Green said.Hastert has already suffered "profound humiliation and public shaming" and is in poor health, Green added.

Hastert was hospitalized with various ailments late last year, including a stroke and sepsis. His attorneys have asked for probation instead of jail time in the financial case."He accepts responsibility for his conduct, seeks no special consideration, and is prepared to receive the court's sentence," Green said.Before details of the sexual abuse allegations came to light, Hastert also apologized this week for an unspecified misconduct.Hastert served as the Republican speaker of the House between 1999-2007.

Trump’s Twitter Followed by Millions of Inactive or Fake Accounts

Sixty-four percent of Donald Trump’s 7.51 million Twitter followers have not been in use for at least the past six months, according to a Washington Free Beacon analysis.

Additionally, using StatusPeople.com’s Twitter analysis app, Faker, which analyzes the quality of a user’s Twitter following, theFree Beacon found that as of April 9, just over half a million (525,700, or 7 percent) of Trump’s followers were considered “fake.”

If not for the media’s fascination with Trump’s Twitter usage, much of what he posts would fall on deaf ears.

Only 2.2 million of his followers were found to be legitimate active accounts.

Observers have also noted other strange activity on Twitter apparently linked to the effort to secure the GOP nomination for Trump.

Patrick Ruffini, a Republican digital strategist and co-founder of the firm Echelon Insights, noted on Thursday that a number of Twitter accounts were tweeting the same anti-Cruz message calling for people to complain to the Federal Communications Commission about Cruz Campaign robocalls.

Now a scathing new video ad released on Tuesday, only a week before the New York primary, slams Trump for taking the funds.

The ad quotes Trump admitting, “I have a lot of property down there, but it wasn’t, fortunately, affected by what happened to the World Trade Center.”

“Donald Trump owes New Yorkers an explanation for taking funds meant for small-business owners recovering from 9/11,” said Rory Cooper, a senior adviser to the #NeverTrump Super PAC.

“In his own words, Trump has said his businesses were unharmed and surely we are not to believe he is a small-business man.

Over the years, Trump has flirted with 9/11 trutherism and has lied about events surrounding the terror attack.

Trump should own up to what he did with this money,” Cooper stated.

The ad is based on a 2006 study in which the New York Daily News discovered that the New York billionaire bilked taxpayers using a loophole in a government program intended to help small businesses recover following 9/11.

Trump is covering century-old marble floors with carpeting and concealing historic wood and marble walls with drapery.
And he has asked to festoon the grand lobby with gold leaf.

In the 24 hours since her profile of Donald Trump’s wife, Melania, appeared in GQ magazine, the Russian-American journalist has received a torrent of antisemitic, vitriolic and threatening messages from supporters of the Republican frontrunner.

In the deeply disturbing response to her piece, Ioffe said she sees a frightening future of what freedom of the press – and the country – might look like under President Trump.

“What happens if Donald Trump is elected?” Ioffe said. “We’ve seen the way he bids his supporters to attack the media, his proposal to change libel laws to make it easier to sue journalists.”

The profile included an interview with Melania Trump, who has since expressed her disappointment with the piece in a statement online.

Like her husband, who often blames the media for covering him unfairly, she called the article “yet another example of the dishonest media and their disingenuous reporting” in a Facebook post. She accused Ioffe of having an agenda, and said that her parents were private citizens who “should not be subject to Ms Ioffe’s unfair scrutiny”.

In an oddly ironic twist, today Donald Trump announced that he has picked as chairman of his newly launched fundraising operation none other than a former employee of the bank he has repeatedly criticized in the past, and which he used as a foil to criticize Ted Cruz: Goldman Sachs.

Trump announced that heading up his own personal fundraising operation as national finance chairman will be Steven Mnuchin, a long-time business associate, chairman and CEO of the hedge fund Dune Capital.

More importantly, however, he spent 17 years at Goldman Sachs where he was most recently a Partner, having built a fortung of $46 million before launching his own hedge fund.

While employed at Goldman, he purchased the remains of IndyMac Bank (now known as OneWest Bank), the Pasadena, California-based mortgage lender that collapsed in 2008.
