Hillary Clinton accused of plagiarizing a line in her DNC speech.

Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton spoke at the Democratic National Convention Thursday evening, but one very small line in her speech caught the attention of a Republican official.

"It comes down to what Donald Trump doesn't get: America is great — because America is good," she said in her DNC nomination acceptance speech.

But the "America is great — because America is good" part was flagged a critic.

Sean Spicer, who works for the Republican National Committee, tweeted that Clinton lifted the phrase from political scientist Alexis de Tocqueville.

De Toqueville, a 19th century French aristocrat who wrote "Democracy in America," is credited with the phrase, "America is great because she is good."

But that line isn't anywhere in de Tocqueville's book.

Instead, a Weekly Standard article from 1995 says the line appears to have first been used in a book on religion 75 years ago.

The author attributed the phrase to de Tocqueville's book, but as the article notes, "The author may have mistaken his own notes for a verbatim quotation, a common problem in the days before photocopiers."

Still, it's a phrase long been used by U.S. presidents, including Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and even Bill Clinton.

THE TOCQUEVILLE FRAUD

America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.

These lines are uplifting and poetic.

They are also spurious.

Nowhere do they appear in Democracy in America, or anywhere else in Tocqueville.

The fact is, no one is really sure where the quote came from, but what they do know, and what the Weekly Standard pointed out in that 1995 article, is that it did not come from Alexis de Tocqueville.

He read the relevant article then put it to the side. Disconcertingly, this ritual continued throughout their half-hour meeting in early 2006.

“So I’m wondering,” Pinkett says, “is this guy reading current trends in real estate, is he reading stock market coverage, is he reading about global business?

I lean over as we’re talking and I realize everything he’s looking at is an article about himself.

In fact at several points in the conversation Donald got so excited about what he was reading about himself that he would pick up the magazine and hold it up to me and say, ‘Look Randal, do you see that The Apprentice was number one in the ratings last week, isn’t that great?’

“Apparently somebody’s job responsibility is to find all this stuff and to organize it for him to read.

I can only conclude that Donald loves reading about Donald.”

Donald Trump rescued from stuck elevator by Colorado Springs firefighters. Then he called out the fire marshal.

The fire marshal that Donald Trump criticized for capping attendance at his Colorado Springs event on Friday responded later to a local television station.

Fire marshal Brett Lacey told 11 News the problem was that organizers handed out too many tickets.

“There’s an old adage that when a fire marshal walks into a room, milk curdles.

So because we’re always looking out for public safety and trying to make certain venues go off successfully and safely sometimes there are people that aren’t very happy with some of the rules and regulations we’re required to enforce. But it doesn’t bother me at all,” he told the TV station.

Criticizing the fire marshal on Friday, Trump said he didn’t know what he was doing and was “probably a Democrat.”

Lacey, was recently honored by the city as “Civilian of the Year” for his role in helping the wounded at a 2015 mass shooting at a local Planned Parenthood.

Also on Saturday, the Colorado Springs Fire Department confirmed that the reason Trump’s event started late was because he got stuck in a hotel elevator and had to be rescued by Colorado Springs firefighters.

They're watching fishing videos on YouTube right now.
They're headed to Virginia next week and are all excited about going fishing down there.
