To anyone who has never seen this movie it would be worth your while to watch it.
It was made in 1957, but is so relevant to current events.
This Friday, viewers across the country will have the opportunity to flip on their televisions to watch a power-hungry, media-savvy celebrity rise to megalomaniacal heights.

We’re referring of course to Elia Kazan’s 1957 film A Face in the Crowd, which TCM will air in the hours after President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.

A Face in the Crowd is Elia Kazan’s mass-media parable about a humble man of the people, Larry “Lonesome” Rhodes — Andy Griffith in his most un-Mayberryish performance — a grifty drifter whose skill with a guitar and a populist message turns him into a radio and television phenom, a reg’lar fellow who gets a taste of influence and sets his sights on pursuing money and power for their own sake.

As he becomes richer and more influential, it becomes clearer he’s a hypocrite who’s only in the populist demagogue game for his own enrichment, the good of the public be damned.

In what feels in the Age of Trump like a wonderfully naïve climax, Rhodes is undone when an open microphone catches him ranting about his utter contempt for the ordinary folks, which is where the movie proves itself an old-fashioned, simplistic fiction.

Just saw this on Twitter and I was shocked to learn that Siegelman was still sitting in jail.
I haven't heard that name in years, but I remember the case very well.

Siegelman is rotting in jail while Karl 'Hamhead' Rove roams free.

The Bush-Cheney-Rove Justice Department prosecuted 600 elected officials plus 2,500 collateral cases (children, elderly parents, children of defense lawyers, etc), and 85 percent of the officials were Democrats.

I will never forget the case of a Wisconsin state employee who was prosecuted and sent to federal prison in an effort to hurt the reelection chances of the Democratic Governor, Jim Doyle.
Miss Thompson lost her home and spent 4 months in prison.
The appeals court threw out her conviction within hours of hearing the case, which is very unusual.

So on the basis of one, count 'em, 1 overturned case, you're claiming it was all a witch hunt?

Imbecile.

As many conservatives have noted including myself, ,the Democrat Party is better described as a criminal conspiracy than a political party.

When Democrats stop committing crimes, they won't be prosecuted.

Misty » 19 Jan 2017 12:14 pm » wrote:A LESSON ON HYPOCRISY

Larry has taken to the habit of calling me a hypocrite lately in an effort to defend his own and his buddy Clem's hypocrisy.
Yep, that's it. I either climb all over "Clem" for his thoughts on Trump's behaviors or I'm a hypocrite. You'll try anything - understood. This "habit" of pointing out your hypocrisy is born of your evident hypocrisy and NOT to defend anything Rich has said, liar. SAYING that I disagree with his thoughts about Trump's behavior is defending those thoughts? The logic of a progressive desperate to defend HERSELF.
Clem has been bleating for years that I have defended a 'serial rapist' namely Bill Clinton, because I had the audacity to say that I don't believe that you should refer to someone as a 'rapist' if they have never been convicted of that crime, or even charged with that crime.
But you have convicted Trump in your own world, nonetheless. That makes you a hypocrite. You hate Trump and in his case it is irrelevant that he hasn't been charged or convicted of that crime. I have him convicted of malfeasance with women in MY own world, just like you do. You never did with your beloved Billyboy. Two totally and absolutely different views you have of the two. Mine are essentially the same but you call me a hypocrite.
Meanwhile, Clem has been twisting himself into a pretzel to deny that Trump has ever touched a woman inappropriately.
He has said that what Trump was accused of doing was just 'vulgar seduction' and he was just trying to 'read' the women to see if they were open to being seduced.
He also said that the women's 'body language' and 'conversation' led Trump to believe that they were open to being kissed or groped.
It was all just a matter of 'miscommunication.'
And I think Trump's behavior was **** and there is not a single excuse for it. But that's irrelevant to you because I'm not kicking Rich in the balls for what HE thinks.
And yesterday he started to throw around the L word saying, "Are we supposed to assume that they're all telling the truth?

So does larry ever call out his buddy Clem for his hypocrisy?
No. He steps in and defends him by attacking me.
Waa... :wah: ...wah... :wah: "Defends HIM by attacking ME"...Good Lord, folks. Look at this child. "You're ATTACKING ME!!"....I'm agreeing with you, in essence, about Trump's malfeasance with women, so the difference is I haven't defended Trump, but you defended Clinton.
Here's a little lesson in hypocrisy for both larry and Clem.

I went digging at the old forum today to see what you guys had to say about Obama's associations with Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers.
It's hard to find stuff over there, since a lot of content was lost when the site crashed.
But I found a few things.
Interestingly enough you guys were still talking about Wright and Ayers in 2013 and 2014.
So we had no business doing that. :wah: :wah:

This is a thread started by larryc12 that quotes a piece from Newsweek by Matt Patterson, who quotes a piece by Norm Podhoretz:

Obama was given a pass, held to a lower standard because of his skin color?
That's laughable considering the number of passes that the orange guy has received and is still receiving.
Not from me, liar.
I'm sure that anyone who was around the old place in 2008 remembers the big hooplah over Obama's associations with Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers.
Clem was one of the most vocal people on that issue.

Fast forward to the man who will be sworn in as POTUS tomorrow.

Trump pals around with people like convicted rapist Mike Tyson.
He said that Tyson's conviction for rape was a 'travesty.'

He had convicted murderer Don King speak at his rallies, and he just had him for a visit at Mar-a-Lago.
He rang in the new year with convicted felon Joey 'No Socks' Cinque.
Trump boasted about his friendship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Epstein hung out at Mar-a-Lago and Trump attended Epstein's parties, where there were under age girls in attendance.
One of those girls has filed a lawsuit claiming that Trump raped her when she was 13.

Neither Bill Ayers nor Jeremiah Wright have an convictions on their record, and their ties to Obama were quite a bit more tenuous than Trump's ties to the people I have mentioned.
Trump hanged with and still hangs with those people socially on a regular basis.

I have posted about Trump's associations with these people most recently about Don King and Joey 'No Socks' Cinque.
The response I got from Clem was:

So that's his standard.
As long as Trump doesn't hire any of these people to work in the WH, Clem is good with him hanging with a bunch of convicted criminals.

And notice how he just had to take a shot at Clinton who had nothing to do with that. LOL

Someone needs to refresh my memory on which convicted murderers or felons Clinton hired to work in the WH.
I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Obama never brought Wright or Ayers to work in the WH, and he wasn't even elected yet when Clem had no problem condemning him.

So tell me larry, how do you feel about the people that our soon to be POTUS 'pals around' with?
Are they better than Ayers or Wright?
Nope, not in a criminal sense, but you can try to dismiss Obama's past with Trump's past if you wish, but it doesn't work. We have seen Obama in action as POTUS and his past was and is an indicator of his contempt for the American way of life. Thus Ayers, Wright, Alynsky, and Frank Marshal Davis are still in view and still meaningful.
And will you call out your buddy Clem for his hypocrisy like you call me out on mine?
I have told you repeatedly that I disagree with him about his defense of Trump's malfeasance with women, but I am not here to do YOUR bidding and rake on him for his opinion on Trump's behaviors.
Right wingers who screeched about Ayers and Wright during the 2008 presidential race have been silent about Trump's close associations with convicted criminals.
But larry only sees hypocrisy in me.
Poor Misty. Everybody is against her and calls her a hypocrite. :( That's because you see no fault in Clinton's malfeasance (sometimes physical harm) with women. And you being a woman yourself. And now you're bringing up something else to screech about right after you spent weeks upon weeks defending that **** whore who helped get people killed without a thought, that **** whore who lied to grieving family members about their loved ones' murders and then called THEM liars, that **** whore who dismissed half the people of America with the arrogance of a queen, and that **** whore who endorsed Uranium 1 to the Russians, among other national security malfeasance. So now, we have Trump's associations (which I will not defend) right after all the defenses you have for the name CLINTON or OBAMA.
