Gonna be casualties. Hamas made sure of that but it won't deter Israel from wiping Hamas off the map. The fact is: I LIVED in Israel. I got to know them and their stories. Many l of the Israelis I knew were really good people who loved their country and who hated the fact they were surrounded by folks who only wanted their death. Most of the ones I knew in the north were Labor Party members who did not approve of continuing to "acquire property in the West Bank, Gaza, the Sinai OR the Golon. However, there were a good many Israelis for whom the "Palestinian problem" boiled down to: The UN split up a chunk of the Ottoman Empire. They gave us a slice, not even the nicest slice, not even Jerusalem, but we accepted that. The Arabs did not. They started a war the day after the British left and their goal was to drive us into the sea and to steal our little sliver of Palestine. They lost. we won. To the victor goes the spoils. They should get over it and find some other slice of desert to raise their goats. Palestinian problem? We won. They lost. No problem.
And if the Arabs HAD just accepted the partitioning of Palestine they would be a whole lot better off than they are now, after three of four subsequent attempts to drive the Jews into the sea where they lost more land with each round of conflict.
And today, if they thought that the Israeli mistreatment of the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank could gain them the moral high ground, I would suggest that killing teenagers at a concert or beheading babies probably is not the best way to maintain that high ground position. Just sayin'.

You HAVE to know they did not accept it. They very recently had their orange dreamcicle declare jerusalem their capitol - as they've tried to get others to do. This is true as well - but what you overlook is that the UN did not give israel anything - the israelis TOOK it, through terrorism, from the british.

Gaza is the most densely populated place on earth - an open air prison. The pretense that its inhabitants are nomadic goat herders is quite dishonest. They have been settled people for millennia.
