    Libs. Tell me how we are supposed to take you seriously when you all pull **** like this? What really baffles me is that you all believe that your own policies don't effect you. Just think if you had white kids that were capable of advanced math classes. You would be hurting your own kid. God you people are dumb as hell. 

This is another example of libs thinking it's better to stoop down rather than expect others to rise up. 

Parents in a Massachusetts school district are expressing their dissatisfaction with a decision made to eliminate advanced math classes for middle school students due to noticeable racial disparities within the program. Cambridge Public Schools observed that a significant majority of students in advanced math tracks were White and Asian, while the lower-level classes were predominantly made up of Black and Latino students. The shift in policy, along with additional complications brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, has led to none of the district’s four middle schools offering Algebra I.

Rush Limbaugh used to refer to it as the "dumbing down" of America... and he was exactly right, as usual.

I'm not surprised.  Not surprised at all.  Parents of White children need to be very aware of what is going on in the school systems.  But, not just primary school, colleges and universities as well.  The "Ivy-League" schools, such as Princeton, Harvard, Yale, etc., have not been places of challenging exceptional learning for decades now.   Here's a short list of Colleges where you really have to be smart to attend and to graduate - no ****:

• MIT
• Georgia Tech
• Cal Tech
• Johns Hopkins
• US Air Force Academy
• Columbia University
• Oxford University
• University College London
• Scripps Research Institute (The rest of University of California is ****)
• Duke (ehh, maybe)
• Rice  (We once had a Rice alum post on Dot-Org, maybe here too)

@Xavier_Onassis   - if you have a "bitch" about my short-list of REAL colleges here, speak up.  But, be prepared to defend your position.  I will smear you if you rely on hokey publications like Consumer Reports.

I'm going to disagree with this. Intelligence is somewhat of a bell-curve.   So, that means those at the left tail should about equal those at the right tail of the curve.  Most will be somewhere in the middle.

Should be and reality are two different things, but I do see where your coming from here.

The point is, when you have school districts implementing policies in the name of "equality" like the one in the OP, then you are intentionally dumbing down the people on the right side of the curve to be more like people on the left side of the curve because it's "only fair".

Not really.  The people in the right tail of the curve will figure out for themselves where to get a REAL education.  Because those people are naturally curious and they don't need "society" helping them out any.

It is the people in the middle of the curve who suffer.  The dumbing down affects them, because they actually need a little teacher-push to help get them into an educational groove that works for the particular individual.  Otherwise, many of the "middle folks" just founder around without direction.  Some eventually find their groove, others never do.

Also, there are socioeconomic factors at play for many if not most as well. You can have the smartest kid in the world that will never make it off the back of the garbage truck if he's never given the opportunity to... which is something else the policy in the OP stymies.

You and I are in sync on the first part of what you said. 

Now, about the "smartest kid in the world".  As you get out to the the extreme right of the IQ bell curve, "smartness" does not necessarily translate into success. Take William Sidis, for example.  He had an IQ of between 200-300, not that I think IQ is measurable out to that numeral, but lets just say "off the charts" brilliant. When he was a child, everyone thought this prodigy was going to do really great things.  He attended Harvard when he was about 10, and did quite well through his teens.  But, then he got into some weird stuff. Bad politics. Just sort of flipped out.  After he became more mentally stable, Sidis worked menial jobs, mainly grinding out numbers on mechanical adding machines. He was a rather pathetic, lonely sole and I think he died of a brain hemorrhage at the age of about 45.

Sidis wrote a book, The Animate and the Inanimate  - I have a copy of it.  And, I try to read portions of it from time to time.  It is rather dated, his thought experiments are mostly invalid, but its interesting to read from the perspective of digging into the mind of the supposedly most brilliant man to ever live.

I worked at Lockwood, Kessler and Bartlett in Pasadena in 1970 with the Cal Tech alumni which was a Geophysical Engineering firm locating oil domes in Liberia, Africa. At the time Cal tech was the leader in Seismolgy.
