I must say that keeping the old "daily driver" cars original is not easy or practical when it comes to finding the OEM switches and dashboard controls. I improvise with "common" general purpose switches.
Windshield wiper linkages is another item that gets hard to find quality replacements once the car no longer has OEM support.
Thankfully I picked 2 of the most popular cars to make my work horses for life....a Ford F-150 and a Jeep Cherokee...........  
The F-150 has taken me every where...including to the bottom of a roadside, six foot deep drainage ditch full of icy water one morning about 30 years ago. You can still see the water line on the inner  cab roof. My only damage was a little piece of glass in my knuckle, the drivers door needed to be replaced and my dog thought it was the most fun thing we ever did.
About 20 years later that truck got rear ended by a car full of Crack Heads flying around a blind curve as I was backing out of a parking lot. The Crack Head Mobile was totaled. The impact tore the massive rear bumper off  the F-150..but I straightened it out and reused it. There was no body damage. The truck was considered a total so I collected something like $1000 for my trouble. Getting it re-registered as a "resurrected vehicle" was as easy as finding the local State Trooper Inspection station.
A person would need to be some kind of helpless, clueless and skill-less  Libtard to ever get wanna rid of this truck or the Cherokee.
I'm "doing my part for a greener planet" by keeping the old iron running...much more so than your typical virtue signaling Libtard who goes through a new car every 5 years.

You realize cars are safer now than they've ever been? There's a reason they don't have large rigid bumpers and have been replaced with crumple zones to help lesson the impact on passengers. The groups looked at rising speed limits across the country and what it means for the average, modern car, which is about 12 years old in 2021. With a handful of 2010 Honda CR-V crossovers at their disposal, they crash tested them at incremental speed increases. First, a CR-V crashed at 40 mph and it held up well with minimal intrusions in the cockpit. Jumping to 50 mph, the vehicle showed "noticeable deformation" of the driver side door opening, dashboard and foot area. It's precisely what you don't want in the event of a crash as parts and components push inward and threaten occupants. Think of the cockpit, ideally, as a cocoon while the exterior crumples around it.

bumpers should be on every car, just a way for car manufacturers to keep costs down and put out cars as cheap as possible. all the car manufacturers are doing it.

the bumpers are there...it has more to do with styling and aerodynamics...

It's called crumple zones. They are designed that way.

Cars in my early adulthood were junk after 100,000 miles. Today's cars get triple that. And if you have a wreck at forty, you likely walk away unhurt. That wasn't the case with the cars that didn't crumple.

Gotta keep the weight down for mpg certification.

I worked on a program (won't say what vehicle) where the design, build preproduction, engine calibration, etc. had reached point of no return. It was going into production.
BUT...
Could not certify at mandated mpg. Last resort solution?
Change all the documentation to limit cargo carry capacity to 50 lbs (instead of 75 lbs).
That squeaked the mpg up just enough for that class vehicle.

You get better mileage when you have almost no gas in the tank, too. 

which is why a lot of vehicles have donuts for spares or none at all...
