I feed the dogs raw organ meat and cooked veggies cheaper than the cost of forcing them to spend their lives eating processed food from a bag - which is bad for any living creature.

Most grocery stores have an aged meat bin. I buy my protein from there, and from the sales circular, exclusively.

I do not plan my meals and go to the store. I go to the store to plan my meals. This leaves me free to splurge for dairy that has not been homogenized and anything else that costs three times as much for higher quality.

My can opener is rusty from disuse. I cook my meals with my own good hand - I know what is in them. I buy Celtic sea salt and I use it course; only rarely is it ground. My spice rack is full of bulk spices. This makes them cheaper and keeps them fresher.

Grocery shopping is an art - but yes, paint is getting more expensive, for sure. It does not impact me as much as it does most. But I do feel it. People eating chips and canned goods have to be suffering mightily, I would imagine.

The same that Reagan offered in 1984. Are you better off than you were four years ago in your personal finances? Personally I have seen a large wage increase that I believe has outstripped inflation and a COLA increase in my social security check. Be honest with this and please don't attack my source of income.
No one is better off as a result of Biden's/Democrat policies. Anyone doing better now than when Biden took over would have even 20-30% MORE of their income.

Before food price inflation people were throwing away 40% of their food purchases, and 50% of meals were takeout or restaurant meals.

The only food being thrown away in my house is the small bucket of composting scraps that I take to a non profit that composts scraps for local community gardens.

As for money spent on restaurants and takeout; people learned how cheap it was to cook during Covid. I remember one episode of Restaurant Impossible, Irvine said that a Grab and Go meal of roast, carrots, mashed potatoes and gravy that cost $3 should sell for $13. Multiply that by 4, and you have a family paying $40 for someone to cook $12 of food. Include in a $10 tip, and you have a family of 4 paying $62 for a meal that could be made for $12 in a crockpot.

After Covid, people's lives changed. Many people that had no savings because they blew it all on restaurants and retail spending, decided to pursue a more frugal lifestyle. The chain restaurants and stores are closing because everybody is learning how to live on less.

My daughter, and I, spend some time every month prepping all her meals  in reusable gallon freezer bags. She has gotten her food bill down to less than $200 per month.

I haven't really seen a big increase on my food bill. I buy on sale, hit the clearance bakery, and shop at a past date store near my daughter's house.

The only processed food I eat are a few snacks like corn chips and potato chips.

I cheered when they increased the prices at fast food places like BK and McDonald's. It is the best thing for our country's health to make fast food unaffordable.

This recipe was written some time ago -I've added traces of flax seed meal and chia seeds to the mix.Vegetables 3-4 lbs (* = organic)Cabbage
Carrot*
Sweet Potato/Yam*
Bell Pepper*
Cauliflower (frozen or fresh)
Broccoli (frozen or fresh)
Peas (frozen) NO RICE – NEVER RICE OR WHEAT OR BARLEY OR CORN OR OTHER GRASSES
Just about any veggie not in the onion family can be used – consult professor google, and make sure it’s not on the dirty dozen (or use organic). ProteinsGizzards 1 to 1.5 lb pkgLiver 6 lbs
Hearts 1 to 1.5 lb pkg
Can of jack mackerel
12-18 eggs

Cook whatever veggies you are using in enough water to cover or chicken broth (let cabbage be the bulk as it is cheap and clean) for 45 minutes on an easy boil, covered. When you are ready to cool them, take the veggies off heat and add the mackerel if you are using mackerel. Crack the eggs into the pot, stirring the eggs in, if using eggs. This cooks the egs a bit while cooling the mixture for the raw organ meat. The food can be plenty moist and the dogs won't mind - also, it thickens as it sits in the fridge.

Chop the raw meat into pieces – I generally cut my gizzards while they are almost frozen, so the don’t roll under the knife and catch my fingers. Stir the raw meats into the cooled veggies and portion. You can freeze the last few days’ worth of food for a day, then pull it for a slow thaw in the fridge if you have room. If not, quick-thaw in sink when needed.

You can get with your favorite grocer's meat department for a bulk price on the liver and gizzards. Pay a buck a pound or less for protein. Your grocer's meat department or deli might have a bulk price on chicken hearts. Check around for beef organ prices, too, in bulk. I plan to drop bulk gizzards now because I've run into too much junk that is difficult to excise.

You can also feed your dog a whole leg quarter as a meal - bone and all. If chicken bones are not cooked, they are harmless - ask professor google.

Believe me, I was EXTREMELY skeptical of that claim. But when I tried to research it, looking for the yea sayers and the naysayers to measure their respective credibility, I literally could not find an naysayers. Raw chicken bones are fine for dogs. If you cannot bring yourself to do it that way, you can save chicken bones in the freezer until you have a fat mound. Put them in the instapot for four hours on pressure cook, and then pour some of the broth and all of the bones into your ninja or food processor. Turn the bones into meal. It is fine for it to be QUITE runny - it thickens in the fridge. Add it to your dog food recipe.

Save your egg shells. Wash them out when you use them and let them dry. To make them a bio-available supplement, cook on 300 degrees for 30 minutes. Take them down to a fine powder in a coffee grinder. Now you have a top notch calcium supplement made from what used to be trash. Mix a fat tablespoon in with the dog food.

A pint of organic coconut oil in the mix will make your dogs dance and sing - and I'm talking with a hat and a cane.

The dogs I give this recipe are 70 pounds and 40 pounds - a german shepherd and a belgian. My cost per day is 1.25 per dog, feeding them twice. There's also a small price for kibble. They have access to kibble 24-7-365. I never have to worry about them gorging because the kibble simply does not call their names. After eating their delicious raw food, they look at kibble as emergency fare. Both of these dogs show rib and have tight bellies, both are energetic and very happy. These dogs are charismatic because they love their lives. Everyone marvels over their carriage and condition at the dog park. They can eat any time they want, but they just are not interested in the kibble except to handle their hunger - not their appetites. As far as their appetites, I control the food they would love to over-indulge in.

For kibble, I recommend member's mark from sams club. 1.29 a pound and better than blue buffalo or iams.

About 8 days, depending how generous you are. Maybe 6 maybe 10 - just depends on portioning.

You have to remember, they HAVE kibble. So they won't starve, regardless. But the beauty of the raw diet is that no dog eating that will EVER over-indulge on kibble.

You can stretch it out by feeding once a day raw leg quarters and once a day raw organ meat prepared food. The leg quarters are even cheaper, and one quarter is about perfect for a dog that size. They eat it bone and all - which is all to the good. The leg quarter meal is a heck of a lot less work - and the dogs love it. But they do not love ANYTHING like they love the raw organ meat meal. And if you are lazy, you can cut the meat with a ninja instead of by hand. I don't do that because I don't want to over process anyone's food - even a dog's.

By the way, look at my first response again. I fixed it. I copied a list but when I pasted it, it lost format. I put that back in. Also, remember to put a quarter cup of chia and a quarter cup of flax seed meal in with the veggies. It's just another excellent source of nutrition for the dogs' coats.
