I figured on making some homemade habanero syrup for the bar to spice up the cocktails and didn't realize that I was going to pepper spray my kitchen in the process!

My nose and mouth are on FIRE and the **** is still simmering on the stove! The peppers were homegrown by a couple that runs a local taqueria and they told me they were good!

I don't think I have to worry about it not being hot enough!

They tried to sell me some ghost peppers and I'm glad I passed!

Holy moly this syrup is hot!

I re-read the recipe and it said you use 2 habaneros, and I used 4... oops!

Can't wait to make a mango habanero margarita this evening and try it out. I'll give an update of anyone is interested... or maybe even if y'all piss heads aren't interested either!

🤣

This is definitely a spicy margarita!

I'm eventually gonna try a mango habanero margarita, but just for experimental purposes, I just went with a traditional marg first.

Shot of El Mayor blanco, 1/2 oz Cointreau, 1/2 oz habanero syrup, 1/2 fresh squeezed lime... shaken over ice for 20 seconds, and then strained into a rocks glass over fresh ice with tajin on the rim instead of salt.

It definitely has a heat kick to it! The 1/2 oz of habanero syrup work for me, but it think most would probably prefer a 1/4 oz.

Don't let the looks fool ya, this dude packs a punch!

I used to work with a guy whose cousin from North Carolina made jerky with the Reaper peppers.

I wonder if it's the same guy?

That was the most insanely hot jerky I have ever eaten too. Almost hallucinaginic.

I grew a couple of bushes of Thai Chili Peppers this year.  Tiny little F-ers, and I'd say a bit hotter than Habanero.  It produced so much, that I would dehydrate them and then grind them up in a coffee grinder we no longer use.  Got a couple of bottles of some smoking hot Thai Chili this year!!!

Thai Chili and Habanero peppers have some of the best flavor to me in regards to hot peppers, Thai Chili especially.

The Carolina Reapers have a great flavor as well, but they are just too **** hot... for me anyway.

Habanero is about as hot as I like to go, and sometimes they can be a bit much. When I made that syrup, it literally almost ran me outta the kitchen. Just a few drops in a Margarita is the perfect amount. The first one made I dropped a half oz in and it was a tad over the top. 😂

I bet the Thai Chili peppers would be good in an infused syrup too!

Those plants are a lot of fun to grow... I've grown Thai, Phillipino and other versions of these Peppers.... Really productive Plants....
I'd also Sun Dry them and put through a Grinder to make Hot Chili Powder.... A nice variation I'd do with them sometimes is I'd Halve & smoke them --- finish drying them in the Sun and it mellowed them enough where you could use them in all sorts of dishes and sauces... Smoked Jalapenos & Poblanos... were also really versatile & tasty...

Peppers are one of my Favorites for Container Growing, which was mostly what I did, along with portable Raised Beds.... Here's some Pics of my Setup.... I'd usually have around 300 or so Containers growing ---- all started from Seed... I was even able to grow a nice Varieties of Sweet Potatoes in Half Barrels...

Never thought about using them to infuse syrup.  I just dry them in the oven and then grind them up. Why the ground Thai peppers are still quite hot and flavorfull, they aren't quite the same as when they are fresh picked.  Fresh picked they are wicked hot.

Those Thai peppers are too small for me to halve.  I will take jalapeno and poblano peppers and grill them with some melted cheddar-jack on them.

Last year, grew our first crop of Jalapenos. Thought it was an easy first step into gardening. Going to step it up this spring/summer. The drinks above sound tasty.
