Cannonpointer's Recipe

This recipe was written some time ago -I've added traces of flax seed meal and chia seeds to the mix.
Vegetables 3-4 lbs (* = organic)
Cabbage
Carrot*
Sweet Potato/Yam*
Bell Pepper*
Cauliflower (frozen or fresh)
Broccoli (frozen or fresh)
Peas (frozen) NO RICE – NEVER RICE OR WHEAT OR BARLEY OR CORN OR OTHER GRASSES
Just about any veggie not in the onion family can be used – consult professor google, and make sure it’s not on the dirty dozen (or use organic).
Proteins
Gizzards 1 to 1.5 lb pkgLiver 6 lbs
Hearts 1 to 1.5 lb pkg
Can of jack mackerel
12-18 eggs

Cook whatever veggies you are using in enough water to cover or chicken broth (let cabbage be the bulk as it is cheap and clean) for 45 minutes on an easy boil, covered. When you are ready to cool them, take the veggies off heat and add the mackerel if you are using mackerel. Crack the eggs into the pot, stirring the eggs in, if using eggs. This cooks the egs a bit while cooling the mixture for the raw organ meat. The food can be plenty moist and the dogs won't mind - also, it thickens as it sits in the fridge.

Chop the raw meat into pieces – I generally cut my gizzards while they are almost frozen, so the don’t roll under the knife and catch my fingers. Stir the raw meats into the cooled veggies and portion. You can freeze the last few days’ worth of food for a day, then pull it for a slow thaw in the fridge if you have room. If not, quick-thaw in sink when needed.

Why CP's recipe you might ask?  If we know anything about CP, he does his homework, whatever rabbit hole that may be! He took the time to post the recipe so what the hell, let's try it out. I did do a little research after the fact and you will find many conflicting statements from the so called experts online. (I sent the Wife down that rabbit hole, she learned a lot)

Pictures coming shortly,,,,

That Better than Bullion stuff is the bomb.

They have several different flavors of it too.

My dogs get kibble and table scraps, and they always seem to make it just fine into their golden years.

Our oldest is a lab/chow mix that is pushing 16, and still plays like a puppy. She is starting to show signs of doggy dementia though.

Same here, we have kind of moved up the ladder as far as kibble is concerned, along with price. We don't do table scraps except for maybe a piece of meat, no pork. Snacks are ice cubes and carrots

The table scraps for ours mostly consist of potatoes, veggies, and the rare leftover piece of meat. Bread too every now and then. No sweets or chips or garbage like pizza... although they would woof down just about anything that got tossed down.

Baked potato skins is one of their favorites. I like the skin myself, but we usually save it for the pups as a treat.

You more than likely won't save any money doing this, it's more about quality food. The next batch will have the beef liver at $5/lb.

Someday I'll figure the cost on this batch. Got 47 one cup servings.

Right now this mix is just half of lunch time, let their system gets used to it. I do get the pleasure of when it comes out the other end so being careful. We will also be boosting other meals of kibble with ground flax seed, raw eggs and yogurt on a rotating basis.

There is a company in Ohio that does frozen food similar to what you do, initials are B-J. don't want to be spamming by giving the actual name. $11 bucks 5 lb bag. I figure it will cost as much as anyone buying the supplies to make it at home.
